i find it to be very aggervating when i'm spending hours making a forum post with information for my guild or faction in my web browser just to have it all lost due to forced logout of forums due to the time it took me to compile what i had to say, today i wasted 4 hours making a list of mat's i had stored in my apt for the guild to use, going from the game to my browser back and forth, just to click on submit and loose everything i had done in those 4 hours.

what reason is there to log a player out from web based forums?

why does it matter if i log into the forum today and do nothing for 6 hours, then want to read a forum post and have to relog?

WHY ISN'T THERE A "REMEMBER ME" ON THE LOG-IN PAGE?

this is not a very nice thing to have when your spending hours writing something and then loose is simply because of an auto log-out due to some unknown time limit.

I WOULD LIKE A REASON TO HAVE THIS, AND TO KNOW THAT SOMEONE READ THIS THAT ACTUALLY WORKS FOR WG, not a player support person, a real PAID person, i know i'll never get that because they "don't have time for the little people" we're only the reason they have a job to start with.

and don't say the ingame forum doesn't log you out, becaue it's got a limit to how much you can say in one post (also stupid, i wouldn't have had to waste 4 hours alt-tab'ing if there was no limit to how much i could type in one post with the ingame forum app)

Talkirc --

Web logins eat computer resources, since the connection is not passive but must be maintained. The counterpart of that is that every maintained login affects every other login. Every game I have played recently has an auto-logout timer on their website.

I agree that a "you are about to lose content" warning would be desirable (and I have seen it implemented, so it's also possible). I hope that you get some response on that. I don't know why there isn't a "remember me" button, but it wouldn't necessarily help in this particular situation since it is just an "auto-login-on-contact" and posting is not "contact". (I'm not completely sure on this.)

However, this behavior is known, has been known, and is not new. Furthermore there are remarkably easy workarounds.

1) For major projects, do them in a word processor and then cut and paste them into the browser to post in the forums. The advantage of this method is that you have an archival backup copy as well.

1A) For major projects do them in GoogleDocs or other cloud-ware, then put the link in the forum post.

2) If you don't want to do that, open a second tab and refresh the forums periodically in that second tab. This counts as "activity".

3) Do your composition, then (Windows) CTRL+(click on the Home button). That will open a new tab and either show the Home page or the login. If you login, then it will see you as logged in when you switch to the old tab and post. (Obviously this is the same workaround as (2) done in a different way.)

I don't know why there is the character limit in the in game connection, but suspect that it is a deliberate move to reduce the use of the WebIG so that the connection is not a drain on the servers.

When requesting "a response", it is generally better to file a ticket ingame or write an e-mail to support@ryzom.com. I have done so many times and usually get a response within a day or so.

I still see no point in logging out someone when using plain old http. It's stateless, in that the server doesn't care at all about you; your login status is just stored in a database, or a cookie, or whatever. Is the game trying to protect the potential crafter from forgetting their account logged and the saved recipes stolen? Little point in auto-logging, really.

So I'm with Talkirc on this one ... a) show prominently what's the timer, a client-side JS can do it; b) extend the damn timer; c) or maybe just take it off altogether. I'm tired of writing in a notepad and copy-pasting here, for fear of being kicked while I'm busy.

I use the copy-paste to textpad technique bbut still happens that I forget it.

I've ranted more then once about this on uni/ceb/... and more places it's just stupid. Another thing that I would have changed is the max characters on ingame mails, you reach it verry fast when replying to a mail and cleaning the mail up without 'select text with mouse function' is slow so most of the time I'm doing ctrl+a and del but sometimes s like treplying on an old mail gets difficult this way (and i'm to lazy to use webig in browser half the time)

just saw that they added a timer in the lower right (it's black text on the dark background though)

as soon as i read this i looked down in the lower right hand and boom, your right there's now a timer showing the time left till auto-log, nice that there's something so i won't complain about the fact it's small it's at the bottom of the page, where you can't see it when your typing in a reply because that's done at the top of the page and the timer is at the bottom, but hey, they did something about it so i'm happy that i got something done, now i just have to remember to always scroll down the posts to the bottom before i click submit to make sure i'm not auto-logged already. (cross my fingers that i don't forget, lolx)

so much confusion.

it's not logout timer hehe. it pulls new info about unread posts (ie, ingame forum icon notification)

Hello!

This had not occurred to me as a problem, mostly because I write short posts. My immediate reaction was - OK I would type the thing up in a text app and then copy and paste when I'm happy with it.

The timer will be useful though.

and here i thought they had tried to do something about the auto-log-out issue this idea was about, guess that was wrong then?? just when you think you finally get something done about an issue (and in record time to boot) then someone tells you that it's not what you thought it was, oh well, i'll pretend that's what it's for and keep using it as that, at least until they make a real timer that's right at the top of a page next to your toon name in the top right corner, where you can see it when your typing a reply or posting a new thread.

here's to wishing and hoping and looking for any sign that we are herd when we ask for things, lolx.

My appologies for not being clear. If the timer reaches zero, it sends request to forum which refreshes server side session timer that keeps forum session alive.

As long as you have forum tab open (and you have not disabled timer by clicking on it), forum session should not expire and you stay logged in.

Hello!

This appears to now be the case. I have not gotten forced out of the forums for the last day or more.

edit: OOOPS -- spoke too soon, but it seems to be a bit longer now.

i too have noticed that i'm not getting forced out as quickly, i'll keep checking to see just how long it is, and will then post this information here as soon as i know what's the limit before log out.

it's well over 6 hours now that you can go without a forced log out, not sure as being over 6 hours is more then enough time for even a long-winded talking or typing guy or gal to get out what then want to get out.

thanks for fixing that issue WG, glad to know you do read our ideas and check them.

Yes thank you for sorting this out.
I know most of our ideas involve a lot of work or maybe are not to good, so its nice to see something taken on board and implemented.
