I doubt anyone will like this because of many reasons....But i think they should block trading between the factions because at the moment there is no point in faction wars everyone is just under the table doing their business if we choose a faction then were gonna fight for them right?!

I know this would be hard to get used to but what are factions really for? i think its PvP right? this would bring excitement to the battlefield. so surely this is the best choice for PvP ?

I do not know whether anybody likes it but I consider it a maximally pointless idea. Every player, every guild, every alliance are entitled to act how they like as long as they do not violate the rules and code of conduct. And trading surely does not constitute such in any way.

I fail to see a real idea in that proposal. Scolding others as "care bears" is simply a stupid and immature insult. And how should "blocking" work? Hardcoded check of faction membership, with no exchange possible if opposing? Control of the inventory? What about neutrals, or converts? Being limited to factional items such as OP mat, or every kind of exchange?

Those who like strong antagonism should play it with those who like that, too, leaving those alone who want to keep their freedom of choice. That there are few factional clashes has other reasons than interfactional exchanges.

Ryzom is a sandbox game. A game where players make the rules. Don't try to enforce rules that are for the enjoyment of a minority. Else I will go about making a Mayhem Air tax on all teleporter tickets. Just because it is a silly idea as well.

Gasket i have a question for you! is Ryzom still a sandbox? because i dont think it is i hate being forced into missions i wish i could make my own rules and remove the silly and annoying missions.

People asked for a working economy based on dappers, the devs did their best to provide that. They cocked up quite badly, if you ask me. Still, you are not forced to do those missions, I often offer people to buy mats from them at reasonable rates when grinding. It isn't as easy as it used to be, and people have become greedy as a result, but it most definately is still a sandbox, in every aspect.

It is a gross misunderstanding to link factions to PvP solely. Faction PvP is one part of PvP, as well as PvP is an element of the game, and factions are an aspect of the game as well as others.

PvP is not confined to factions, it can be done between any set of players inside, outside, or across faction boundaries. And factions are neither solely nor even originally made for PvP, they are indispensable elements of roleplay of any kind, play a role in PVE, are part of the Lore. They are providing background and athmosphere for the game no matter whether one practises PvP or not.

I wonder a bit about the paranoia that a reasonable proposal might be dismissed because it is linked to PvP. There is no reason why PvP should not be practised, advertised, and popularized as any other part of gameplay. Yet this should be done by non-coercive means as everything else is not likely to raise popularity of PvP.

And rational discussion is a prerequisite as well. Hate or contempt vocabulary of the "care bear" kind is inappropriate. So far, I did not find players not practising PvP defaming PvP players as brutes or rowdies. I would oppose such attitude as well.

There's was once a point to faction wars ? :)

I had a discussion few months back with a long time Ryzom bud about why I don't enjoy PvP (he does very much). He asked "well if ya want an OP mat & the OP that makes it is owned by the other faction, how are ya gonna get one ?"

To which I replied ... "Well pre-merge, I usually just asked." The conversation stopped for a good long time as the concept was foreign. There's no wrong way to play the game as long as the CoC is adhered to. When traveling, should sneaking be outlawed and "ya must blast your way through" method enforced?

Four guys get together to play poker every Saturday night. "Dealer's choice" allows the dealer to pick the variant of the game they each enjoy most. Now if one tries to enforce a "only texas hoidem" rule, what happens ? Next Saturday he plays alone. If we want the game to remain viable, we should allow each player the same opportunities.

I think that Squires commented quite appropriately following up my remarks, no offense taken. I just felt that some polemics against non pvp players were spreading over Ryzom lately, Squires far not the worst at all. Proposals how to improve every aspect of the game are valuable, for PvP of course as well as for any other. Yet I think the baseline should rather be motivating, encourageing etc. rather than hindering oder forcing.

Next Saturday three other guys that like to play exactly texas hoidem come in and replace those that quit.

As for the idea itself, i'd rather like to see more elaborated and complex way motivating players for PvP, than simply putting a wall between factions. Just example, if the Outposts could be centers of guild activities, giving access to valuable benefits, if they would have to be built involving a lot of efforts, if they provided the feeling that you actually own something like citadel, safe place in the middle of wild lands, then there would be much more motivation to attack and defend them. Right now the Outpost is just a building located somewhere, that you don't have to worry about until someone declare on it. Not to mention that without cats the OP rewards are nothing to write home about.

I'd like to point out a severe roleplay problem with this proposal: Enemies trade with each other all the time.

Imagine if you will that Be'Nary Broggan needs rubbarn and his guild owns a tekorn OP. Wile Saracini really wants to equip his elite melee troops with tekorn weapons and owns a rubbarn OP. Each of them have enough allies that any attempt to take the other's OP is likely to fail. Do you really think that they are not going to work out a temporary truce to each get what they want?

It could be a most amazing RP setup, complete with the necessity of suppressing the hot-heads on each side to benefit the whole of each guild.
