Yet, if taking the poll by face value, I see over 57% voting against the current scheme of distributed grades and for the one or the other scheme of grouped grades of the same material, and bit less then 40% in favor of it.

On the other hand, nearly 80% are voting for either the current or the previous status quo. So there seems to be an overwhelming majority of "the lazy". :)

Actually I dont see that. From this poll most homins seem to like the changing of location, while they don't like the current lack of grouping. I'd agree better poll options from devs would be nice.

ill try to explain for the last time because it seems ive got misunderstood....

-grouped mats are convenient. without further considerations, this would be my choice.
-the old locations are also convenient. even having all charted, i'd love to use bmsite again.

it is clear to me tho, and no one that I talked to could give another perspective (I hoped you could help with that), is that grouped mats will make the experience worse.

why? its simple.... say you want sup mat X. while you wait for the tricky right weather, you can (and will) dig what is around. you will find other stuff probably, but mostly things that you haven't planned (you don't want to be far from the X spot). this behavior wont change, what change is the mats that are around. so, what I dont like is: the first one to come takes it all (sup+xls)

what would be a convenience will be a factor to favor the first lucky guy to be present at the server reset. the person that comes after won't probably find anything good.

ofc this vision is not taking KP in consideration. I hope it returns soon so the first at least has some challenge to take it all :D

The "majority of players" has voted. The big prize is behind door 3. The only thing is for the community manager to decide, if the vote was valid or not (maybe also considerate to take a look "who" voted, like Daomai suggested). Then announce the outcome or a new vote.

However the votes were made, 203 for option 1 and 208 for option 3 is too close to call one a winner. However the results are used, many players will be upset.

If we get option 1, the bug is still a problem.
If we get option 3, many will wonder why the dig spots were moved in the first place.

Myself, I don't think it really matters which option is implemented but if it is option 1, the bug will be resolved soon.

It would be immature to be upset, as the poll hasn't but advisory and informative function for the devs and csr. They are free to weigh it and decide either way, and it would be childish to complain about. Yet as far as votes go, a majority is a majority, even a close one, and 5 out of 500 (1%) is not so close anyway.

I can live with any of the proposals, and we all have to live with the decision.

Anyone know what is going on with this? Did number 3 win? Can we expect a change with the next server restart or was it to close to call or are they thinking of doing another poll?

So many questions and no answers.

Whatever the decision this time, I think that moving of dig spots (like every couple of years) should become a regular feature. For those of us who like the foraging occupation its a real feature.
And foragers don't get too many new things to spew over...

Well just a note ..... it's not just PR that frustarted people. Standing on Loria atm with a bunch of green cabbages saying they are Choice Oath Bark right under my feet. But tracking for Oath Bark says its 71m away.

Tracking for Wood node says 2m but a 360 degree prospect at every range available up to 100m shows "nothing in this area". yes, we know all about tracking's idiosyncracies, have known for 8 years but the "wrongness" of the harvesting messages has a frustration for both old and new players.

indeed FF, not to mention the bug's a reason newer players (like myself) don't care much for digging, i liked to dig in silan, the bug never really show's it face there that i ever delt with, however once on ML, when i thought heck i'll do like in silan and dig mat's to sell so i can make some dap's, go out, doing just like in silan, but damn, everywhere i go, i can't seam to dig what i'm tracking/trying to pop, odd i think to myself, maybe it's just a random fluke, so i keep trying, for a few days i get the msg on and off, i hit the forum to see if it's just me, then poof, i find out about a bug that's not been fixed in years and years, and then i say hmmm, a paid game with an 8 y/o game, how very odd, what are they doing with the revenue's from the sub's? but anyway, i think's i've made my point in that, so i'll close with, what's my 11 us $ going for?

you have to be careful not to mix the bug with the disappointment of not really knowing the system. the tracking works perfectly for me, anywhere. my only issue is the bug, with the wrong messages, that you can learn how to avoid too.

#75 Report | Quote[en]

So "it's not a bug it's a feature" ? To my mind:

- - Standing on a node, and then tracking it and having it say it's 71m away is not "working perfectly".

- - Having tracking say ya within 2m and then not being able to pop the node anywhere within 250m is not "working perfectly".

Yes, workarounds to the deficiencies in the tracking system have been known for 8 years, and it's been more of a chuckle than a real frustration....at least for masters with 360 degree and 100m prospect capability. That doesn't mean it's "working perfectly". And for those w/o those abilities, it is a real frustartion.

Moreover, post merge, things have changed. Tracking functions outside of PR still work ... most of the time,... but I do run into instances, post merge, where quite simply "It doesn't". Sometimes it works one day and another day it doesn't. Never ran into this problem in the 8 years pre-merge.

How have you confirmed that it is "working perfectly" for every material in every region and in every place ?

(posintg for the 2nd time after the forum loged me out and discarding everything...)

your first case is possible. I cant say for sure because I wasnt there at the same time using the same actions, but I can imagine the following situation: you are at a XL deposit, and you prospect some choice mats (xl is weathered). after that you use tracking again, but at this time the weather has changed, the choice isnt available, but there is another deposit with choice mats in 71m.

the second one is tricky, and its something most ppl find difficult to undestand. beeing at the deposit doesnt mean you are right above the location the mat will pop. this location can be a tiny spot or a bigger one, but its fixed, and once you find out it wont move. it is as you said in another post (iirc), a 'checkboard'. the deposit would be the entire checkboard area, but the mat will only pop at certain squares. tracking leads you to the checkboard area.

using 100m propection and 360degree radius is the worst thing you can do.  you have to narrow down the area, not make it bigger.

and no, I havent confirmed everywhere. I confirmed looking at the code and experimenting in many areas. I like challenges, like I think you do, so, if you find some weird thing going on call me and we can look into it :)

cheers

That example is overcomplicating it .. I am talking normal grind dig ... what I do 95% of my time in Ryzom for the last 6-7 years. Haven't "dinged" a fight / magic skill in at least 4 years. Talking plain ole above ground, choice mats ... weather does not enter the equation.

I am also not talking about what "I do" but what the game mechanics imply should be done. If 100m prospect doesn't work, then it should be removed from game. I find that the biggr ones do work...sometimes.

My method of locating an new spot once I get to <2m.

1. Use varying prospect radii, usually hits by 40m...sometimes 60 ... I'll get hits 80+% of the time. Then using mek as my compass center and compass set at 25m, I will do a circle around the mek .. 10m prospect...then 20m.. then 40m at 1 o'clock, 2 o'clock, etc

2. Then I will set compass radii at 50m, rinse and repeat..Keep widening the circle until I get a hit....as the compass radii gets bigger, ya have to use a % of the radii rather than the edge to get full coverage.
