Sound issue on Mac OS 10.6 - corrupt sound file?

I've been playing Ryzom for a few days now and only just left Silan for Fairhaven.
Sound wasn't an issue whilst on Silan, but soon after arriving at Fairhaven I noticed a strange sound that reminds me of my washing machine when it's spinning - sort of a buzzing/screaching sound. I can't say I've noticed the sound whilst in the water city, but pretty much as soon as I hit land, I start to get the sound. I haven't spent too much time here yet or gone too far, but it does come and go based on where I am and what's near by. I'm thinking a sound file might be corrupt? Any way to do a file check?
I tried playing with the few sound options, and other than giving me an occasional crash, nothing stopped the buzz.
