So I'm poking my head in after a couple of years to check things out post-merge, and I noticed in the weeks leading up to this that I wasnt able to access the Ring servers. Not being able to find any official announcements I assumed it was disabled in the lead-up to the merge, so I took the opportunity to ask Sywindt about it on Saturday who just confirmed that it was disabled. A little more research brought me to the Ryzom core blog which made it sound like the ring has been down for a while now - since before May at least.

So the servers come back up, and lo and behold the option to enter the scenario editor isn't even there anymore. So what's the deal? Is the Ring officially dead and buried? I know the feature never saw a huge amount of use but I was having a lot of fun creating unique scenarios with pretty advanced techniques during my first play through in 2010, and was really hoping to give that another shot and provide at least some content to the community. ; ;

As far as a CSR told me, the Ring is down due to cost cutting. The Ring was a separate shard and if WG cannot sustain 3 communities / servers chances are bad at the moment to see the Ring shard come up anytime soon. But let's all hope Ryzom attracts more people now and we get the Ring back one day :)

Hi Jianyu,

Indeed as a cost-saving measure the Ring has been put into mothballs as it were. Buttons have been removed to prevent confusion.

We hope that revenue will increase to the point that a Ring-server will be feasible.

Maybe someone should update the official site (ryzom.com and so on). It currently shows that the ring is usable.

I'm sad to hear that. I've always used the Ring since I started playing Ryzom. There are some amazing (and underappreciated) scenarios on Ryzomnomnom. But it's true, there's rarely more than a handful of players using the Ring at any given time (if even).
Hopefully the game will generate more revenue so that the Ring can be hosted once again. Maybe make the rewards there a bit more tangible so that more people feel inclined to use it.

Ring could become a good way to have instanced raids (a-la-commercial MMO) in the future, not necessarily for actually tangible stuff, but still some cosmetics and titles and whatnot, at least for starters..... That said, it's A LOT of work so not demanding anything.
