When first announced, it sounded like there would be almost forced segregation: English in this town, French in that and German over there but when I asked Zeligmane, he quickly indicated that was definitely not the case. Live, eat, drink where you will. Mini-events will be held in the native (En, Fr, De) language of the town and major events will be held in English/Racial and all homins would welcome to participate.

You can't "complete" the mainland. If one thinks one has seen or done everything there, one is kidding oneself. But be prepared to "get out what you put in," because the mainland does not coddle or hold hands.

Other games - they give you a cookie whether you succeed or not, in fact you don't even have to participate. Ryzom takes your cookie, eats it in front of you, and slaps you 2 or 3 times for bringing a cookie in the first place.

I played on Leanon for eight months and I don't know German. Trust me philu (Neela), you'll be fine. Everything will be fine.

How will players be able to play across different nations?

In every nation, one city (excluding capitals) will be dedicated to a community. This way, players will be able to reunite with players who speak the same language, without abandoning the nation their character plays in. In the Burning Lands, there are only 3 cities. This means that one of the communities will be given a neighborhood inside of Pyr, while the other two will be installed in the two remaining cities.

Oh Perfect....not...can we have confirmation of which community will go to which city?

I consider Dyron to be my home so, if that isn't the english one, you're taking my home away as well as everything else I care about in Ryzom.

Yay, another Dyron devotee! Thought I was the only one in my guild who had a lick o' sense. ;D

Me thoughts on this, language aside... whichever server gets stuck into some dusty alleyway in Pyr is gonna feel jilted compared with their q200-zone counterparts.

::walks up to Civ teleporter-type person:: Hi! I want, and by golly deserve, a free ride to my language's city!

Civ teleporter: "Sure!" *poofs you a block away*

:/

::sits at the Stables outside, watching Newbs dig q50 nodes::

Always argue with an idiot... it's the only way they can get Experience! :)

#22 Report | Quote[en]

Funny, I was thinking about it the opposite way: being associated with the capital city would be prestigious. From the practical angle, the capital will have the q250 merchants.

I am glad for quite a number of clarifications. I'm extremely happy how the shard merger is being implemented. I've been gone for a long time but I'm sincerely glad I'm back. The change to mob/material location is great. But what made my day was your plans for the Encyclopedia. As someone who was excited and then dismayed when it was left alone all those years ago, I'm doing a small jig for the attention its getting! I came back to save my day, but you guys just made me stick a lot longer than I planned for. :D

For the record, my friends, the division of the cities is an RP and events thing only. You are always free to go where and speak any language that you like (although courtesy demands you do not disturb events that are run in another language than your own.) In fact, the mingling of the different populations is something that we want to encourage.

This system is merely a solution to the problem of integrating 3 major languages into one server and into the lore events.

I wonder if people who speak multiple languages are allowed to partake in the local events of multiple towns.

Of course! All within RP boundaries of course... So if your "normal" town was not so friendly to the town the event is in, you may not get a warm welcome :)

Anyhow, a lot of germans and french speak English, it's just the other way around thats going to be tricky ^^
On top of it, I don't know about numbers, but I assume the english and french community are by far bigger then the german one.

Nevertheless, we can always rely on sign-language.... dance once for trade and twice for a fight....;-)

#27 Report | Quote[en]

There are some people on Arispotle who are native Germans (or at least speak the language) and still prefer the English community. But they can always function as translators, if they are willing to. And if we're lucky, there are some French folks on Arispotle as well.

#28 Report | Quote[en]

Suprisingly for me, or maybe not so much since I immersed myself in a French setting, this made a lot of sense when first read en Francais.

Merci beaucoup pour le traduction.

While I have no criticism, considering the amount of effort I am certain went into this, there seems to be at least one concern with the Matis that could easily lead to civil war.

I'm sure many, myself included, are very interested in watching how all of the intricacies are played through.

Had hoped the team would choose French as the language, though perhaps it could change from meeting to meeting--to include Deutsch and perhaps EspaƱol? This could help any number of aspects of a multilingual shard.

Merci,
HadrianKross

P.S. May I also suggest that we consider the earlier starting lands as the new starter areas--making them accessable for characters starting again at lvl 1?

I just have to say thankyou for coming up with such great solutions. The story is made much more exciting and interesting than just a delete reset change. i really look forward to seeing the cities being made more use of, events will definitely be a bit difficult and all the luck if you can actually pull off native Atys language events. The learning curve for these languages would be huge though.

Having a group of event translators could be doable but events would have to be very well scripted indeed and synchronizing translations could become a hugest nightmare. but i'm sure it'll all be worked out eventually if homins work together.

Tamarea (Aniro)

As the three teams will merge, there will only be one SEM left. Until now, Tamarea has been the SEM of Aniro as well as the SEM coordinator. She should have become the SEM of the new merged team. Nevertheless, a SEM speaking the three languages (English/French/German) is very important. First, for the communication inside the Event Team and second, but most importantly, for the communication with the Atysian community. Limai, who is now the SEM of Leanon, can speak the three languages, and for this reason was chosen to become the new SEM of the merged shard.

Ryzom Team

Please note that this was done in collaboration with the entire events team.

One can consider this a message from all of them.
