Hello people of Ryzom. Just checked my old email a few days ago and saw that Ryzom was wiping to game, I was shocked and went right to the official forums to see the community reaction. No suprise that everyone was angry, but I was reading as an innocent neutrel party and thought to myself "Well, I kind of like this idea...", but I knew that if the devs really went through with the idea that the game would die as many of the paying vets would leave and that would make the game no fun for me. Then to again to my surprise I read on Massively that they took back the decision and are now letting subs keep a character, which is really cool of them but is kind of a PR wreck. Either way, I plan on joining up again in Ryzom on the 29th and having a new experience.

But that's not really the point of this thread, I have a few questions...

- I really don't understand the starter pack, I know you get items but is it worth me logging on and trying to get before the merge? The events really confuse me and from what I understand it's only happening on weekend nights? I work nights so I don't know if there's any other way I can get it.
- Since they aren't wiping characters, won't the economy still be in static mode? The reason I stopped playing awhile back was because everything was so static, Ryzom was very very top heavy with the veteran elite owning much of the game and me, a lowly newb, could never hope to catch up. Hell, there was no reason to try as I could just get free items that vets were handing out like they just duped them. The reason I want to come back is because I want a fresh start with no major advantages and I can craft and try to live in a breathing economy. I think I explained that as well as I could.
- Wars. I read a big part of Ryzom is guild's warring against each other. But since the economy was so static basically everyone was at peace. What are the chances that stuff starts rolling again? It seems like a very fun part of the game.
- Boss farming, I really never got involved in it in my time in Ryzom, so I don't know if it was obsolete because everyone was high level and there was no reason to go out and kill open world bosses. Is this gonna be a big part of Ryzom still? I'll all about working with others in a vast open world :D
- Finally; guilds. I really don't want to make this all about me, and that I'm some sort of rare artifact, but is there any guild that is willing to let me in and kind of help me relearn the ropes?

I'm really glad the devs have changed their decision, it will just put that much more life into this game. I can't wait till the 29th when I can join up with all of you in this great game. There is really no game like this.

If you create a new character in any case you don't need the starter pack - its main purpose is to keep the character look and name on the new Shard (if you want to save your old character look and name though - you should get one)

They want to do some changes to the economy and in addition to that they're moving the spawns and harvest spots - so everyone has to relearn some things (find them again)
How the worth of the dappers will changed is currently unknown to us.

We will have to see regarding (guild)wars... there were huge differences between the communities and we will have to see how it all works out.

Boss/Named farming - well they are giving some of the best materials so it's kinda obvious that they'll remain important. (at least those lvl 210+)

All guilds have to be re founded afterwards - some are planning to create new ones others are planning to recreate theirs and again others don't know yet - but I'm sure you'll find one ;-)

Thanks for the response,

I just really hope the economy isn't so saturated with stuff that I lowbie like me can't make an impact. Like I said, it was the reason I quit, because honestly everything else about the game is awesome. It's just when the grind I put in has no payoff I see no point.

You could perhaps go straight from level 1 immediately to mainland and ignore uni-chat or other players for a bit and make your own stuff within a group of some friends, it's a different style of play

Also sometimes newbies are timid to ask for armor even though there are many people who would very kindly make them some, you can make an impact, perhaps on a smaller scale but it's only "really" worthless if you take gift items every time offered,

I found it pretty fun, just my 2 cents

In addition the item wipe will force experienced players to get their own gear sorted first. It will take years until we get people with several storage GHs again. If that will ever happen... Effectively the merge cuts supreme material supply by factor 3.

The Recless + F2P + new players will be quite large in numbers, opening a nice market for new crafters.

About the PvP: I expect it to become way more dynamic because they changed the benefits OPs offer. They are no longer making cats that are basically needed to support new players.

=/ that 10x GH storage thing seems so terrible, I wonder if we might get more storage instead of having the need for alts that are taking up space

Concerning content:

I think many of the issues you've mentioned will be solved by a more populated game word.
