Well a lot of ppl are still concerned about even being able to keep their identities so thats a valid point.

And, I think we're all missing the point that many of us are willing to pay for the retention of levels once (as long as we don't get locked into an agreement).

This isn't about a handout, we're willing to pay.

The problem remains the time it takes to implement these options before the 29th, so maybe both P2P and F2P should be trying to support the devs as best we can, so that they can help work towards reducing the player loss as much as possible.

Unfortunately I think there will be some, but not as much as previously expected.

edit: actually we only got to drive the compacts, as we don't get meks, just mounts

Player loss really?
Guild I'm in probably doubled in size since the announcement because old players returning and most of those returning do plan to play again, then there are some f2p players in the guild that already signed up and or are planning to in the next week.
All I would say atm it looks like ryzom is growing quite rapid, and counting that 2 other servers will be added, atys will be quite full a busy place the first months probably.
Not saving f2p levels might even help because you won't see 6 lvl 125 alts running around behind some guys to go on solo boss kills, now these ppl will need to retrain their alts and team with others to take on bosses atleast for some time. (I know some ppl have subbed alts aswell but well they payed for em, can't do anything about those and not sure we even should)

Ok I have read most of this and now that I have stopped laughing too hard to type I will generously donate my valuable time to putting your concerns to rest.
Winnerx
i can not believe that ryzom could stay alive without F2P's
It did for many years.
Winnerx
they are going to wipe years of HARD WORKING to level up our levels
please try to understand our feelings
replace "years" with "months" and "HARD WORKING" with "FREELOADING" and this statement becomes factual.
Firstdo
so many players are against f2p hear people say things like "waste of bandwidth" ect.
I Have made no secret that this is my position.
Hadrisian
not in game they don't
Yes, even in Uni.
Hadrisian
subs are only getting what they paid for already, and F2Pers helped them get that, we're only asking for the same support we gave you.
Your help was inconsequential. For years the community has been filled with contributing (paying) players who offer actual help, like mats or equipment higher than q130, treks that dont end abruptly or cost heavily in DP, heals that can give back what they soak up in a boss team. In most cases accepting your help is just to make you feel warm and fuzzy and useful. Charity, just like the rest of your Ryzom experience.

Eruv
consider that many f2p players will return to pay when they are able
Someone used the term "extreme minority" in another argument. It applies here. Sorry but the rest of your post was just TOO LONG to bother reading. Im sure you have other invalid points and I apologise for not having the time to address them all.

Hadrisian
I seriously doubt the server cost has anything to do with the merge. Player retention due to a more populated world probably does have a lot to do with it.
The first part is incorrect. Running and supporting multiple servers is a financial burden in a game with a dwindling subscriber population. I have seen this happen in other MMO's and I had heard from Dev's of the financial concerns long before the decision to merge was made.
The second part is correct :) *golfclap* well done. I was pleasantly surprised.
Hadrisian
and you really can't tell the difference between P2P and F2P
Come with me on a trek through HH or Wastelands, paying Pei-Ruz a visit, come dig with me, really join me in any of my normal day to day gaming here in Ryzom or meet me in the Matis Arena, and you will very quickly see the difference. If all you do is stand around talking I can understand how you could be confused, although im not sure what you want your levels for...
Yenno
we do not request any thing pfft we just want to keep things as they were and treat F2P's as homins
This whole thread is about asking for something. You are asking for the Devs to spend resources to transfer your free characters to the new server. The vast majority here want to keep things as they were as you can plainly see from other threads, but it just aint going to happen.
Yenno
but what if i love the game and i can not pay!!! it's hard to get to 125 in all skills took months or even years
What if I love Lamborghinis and I can not pay? You cannot have taken years as Subox has proven. If you have been playing for free for months then you obviously have access to a computer and an internet connection. Assuming they are not borrowed or stolen, cough up the subscription fee. Its perfectly reasonable.
Yenno
as a conslusion please do not push F2P's to leave this lovely game.
Theres plenty more where you came from. Lots of people willing to take something for nothing. You are given the opportunity to play for free. You have payed for nothing and are entitled to nothing.

Now that all of your arguments have been nullified with logic (and I will admit a healthy dose of sarcasm but honestly some of your points were a joke and didnt deserve 100% serious responses)
There is no need for this to continue.

/Beefed. You can thank me later.

I feel so stongly on this subject because I have played and supported this game since 2006 like many of the other older players I have been through the past bankruptcies and the uncertainty this game would ever exist. If you feel this strongly about this game just subscribe and support it. Don't give us the line of crap that this game can't funtion without f2p because honestly you can't funtion without US the paying players.

emphasis mine

That is exactly true. F2P accounts exist on the sufferance of WinchGate and are funded by the paying community. As the saying goes: Do not look a gift horse in the mouth. Your ability to play for FREE is a GIFT from WinchGate and is paid for by every single subscribed account. Be grateful that F2P is allowed to continue in this time of merge instead of simply being cut off completely.

1-if it did for years why it did not keep as that way !!!!
2-for me is months and do not know about others so i thought might be years
i was playing almost 10h or so/day its hard working for me
....

#52 Report | Quote[en]

While I agree on most part i really disagree that playing F2P is all about receiving charity. It is true in a financial way but i don't care very much about that one.

Teaming and hunting bosses with F2P players brought loads of fun to me. In fact it was one of the activities i liked most for some time. And indeed it made no difference to my fun if my teammates were capped 125s or subbed 150s.

But... i personally never met a single F2P player that completely refused to sub at any future time and was still fun to play with. Those that saw F2P as a trial will most likely sub now. And that is the important part.

1) Because they can't financially afford to run so many servers at the current model style .

2) So your happy to play the game for 10hrs a day for months on end , for " free " ( i fail to see how that is hard work to be perfectly honest ) , and still expect more from the devs ................

Surely if you enjoyed the game that much and want to keep your current character/s , you would wash a couple of cars or mow someones lawn / do some gardening work each month ( or soemthing else , afterall , it really isn't that expensive ) and pay a subscription for it ?

what kind of gift is it !!!!
as far as i know : if gifts have given you have not to ask to give them back !!
---------
so if you consider "the ability to play for free is a gift" then let ppl do that and do not say if you'arnt going to subb we will wipe your levels

This thread is mind-boggling! o.O
I have a hard time imagining a similar discussion in any other game....

The fact remains that f2p is at the beneficence of Winch Gate. If anyone wants the benefits offered to Winch Gate's paying customers, then pay for them. That is absolutely fair and anyone who says it isn't is ungrateful and greedy.

As to the quality of the people that play f2p, we're all people; so, why wouldn't they be just as wonderful or irritating, resourceful or dumb, friendly or trollish as anyone else? :)

The GIFT is that you can play for free. If they limited F2P to Silan, as has been done in the past, then the gift is still available: Play for free. If they wipe all F2P toons but continue to allow F2P, then the gift is still available: Play for free.

c'mon Gorran do not seem that you didnt understand what devs were trying to say
-------
they force F2P's to subb by indirect way cuz no one would want to lose all his mini-masters skills

Let's not turn this into a yes/no repetative and repetative thread please. I'll lock it if there are no new arguments forthcoming. Thank you for your cooperation.

For clarity, the merger is primarily a financial decision. Ryzom has been losing money for a long time. It was thought the open sourcing and "F2P" free-trial system would help. They did help, but not enough, and since Winch Gate's coffers are not bottomless, it was either close the game or cut back on costs. As server costs are quite high, a merge was the only way to keep the game alive.

If you love Ryzom, please subscribe and keep this wonderful game in the air!
