The devs did this for the players with years of experience in ryzom who have many real masters, just be happy people will be able to craft gear and stop complaining. You're able to play a great game because of us (paying community) , paying for the servers with our subs. You get a lot for free, stop being greedy.

Your free help in uni is not going to play for the servers...

Nor does losing subscribed players...

Reguardless:

500,000 * 10usd == ~ 3,000,000/month (being very generous elsewhere)
Even if F2P were 2/3 of the player base, that's still at least 1,000,000usd per month

Even with the best servers, and the best internet connection, it's more like 1,000,000 per year, rather than per month.

This is how MMO's can survive as long as they do, as long as they are not mismanaged.

No player run server will ever come close to those operating costs.

I seriously doubt the server cost has anything to do with the merge.

Player retention due to a more populated world probably does have a lot to do with it.

If I owned the Saga of Ryzom outright, I would be very concerned about the retention of F2P players, as well as the retention of willing open source programmers--considering the only thing keeping them is the good will of the company.

LOL ryzom does not have 500,000 ACTIVE players.... Im not sure how many but its a small community, hence why its been losing money for 4 years....

#28 Report | Quote[en]

lol probably 9/10 or even more accounts of those 500k are under the new f2p system.

the other bulk would be old p2p (but not paying anymore), and old f2p accounts that aren't really usable atm (might been wrong there have been more sorts of f2p types in the past).
Only a small fraction of those 500k users are still active and paying subs.

If devs can and want to do an extra gesture of good will then I would opt for it that they first move the old p2p ppl that might not have gotten the mail or are on holidays or unable to login atm and so on. I'm sure some of those would happy pay a month of sub to keep their chars lvls but just don't follow ryzom that closely anymore. Atleast those players have supported the game in the past.
=> atm it looks like only the subbed players are being saved now so winchgate does already leave some ppl that supported the game out in the cold, why would they save chars that have never supported the game? Most of those f2p are alts anyway.

probably not a good idea to ever delete data that can be used later...

offline storage really is cheap these days, so no reason to destroy player data or even server config data.

while server and network upkeep does constitute a fair amount of operation cost, I still think the primary reason for the merge is a more populated game world, which isn't such a bad thing--yet another thing F2Pers provide.

Also, the whole impression of F2P players in some way damaging the game is lost on me. I've played on both Ari and Aniro, (recently visited Leanon) and you really can't tell the difference between P2P and F2P--I hope that continues.

edit: and even at 9/10, thats still 500,000usd per month!! We should be very comfortable in our new home once we get through this. Not to mention the possibility of expanding at a later time. (another reason to NOT delete anything)

Reading this is honestly hilarious, where do you get the idea that Ryzom is some huge money maker? You can see a huge difference betweenf f2p and p2p players, f2p players generally dont last... how long have you been around?

#31 Report | Quote[en]

you didn't read it did you?
I said 9/10 probably current f2p accounts; still loads of those 1/10 are old p2p and old f2p accounts (the 30days type and silan type)

no idea how many are still activly subbed but I can hardly believe it's anywhere close to the 50k you think it is, probably 1/10 of 50k or even way less then that maybe somewhere in the region of 1k-5k active subs maybe but that's a total guess from me

long enough to know that people with the attitude you exhibit here are in the extreme minority in this community...

edit: 1/10 is 500k usd, 50k players--wonder how much it has fluctuated recently... also i think the trial was 20 days... only 5000 active players is rather sparse though--yet another reason to treat the F2Pers (which could possibly become P2Pers) well

Not really, so many players are against f2p hear people say things like "waste of bandwidth" ect.

#34 Report | Quote[en]

not in game they don't, like I said, how would anyone know. think there may have been a couple posts like that on the forum, but again extreme minority.

i can not believe that ryzom could stay alive without F2P's
( let imagine that only P2P who are playing this game :
1 - it would be a very small comunity
2 - ryzom would lose loads of skilled F2P's--> they used to help new players all different ways )
3 - if ryzom would face an economic trouble in the futur so surely it would be the end of this lovely game cause many mastered players will leave ( as we saw after the first announcement many subb players decided to leave yak......)

do not consider F2P's as Profitless community

#36 Report | Quote[en]

I think F2P's are good people kinda like the guy that lives in the bedroom section of Super Wal-mart and lives off the free samples for nourishment and gets plenty of rest. True neither are hurting anybody but at the same time neither are helping pay for the resources that keep the establiment running and are only there getting the party crunk.
I respect all homins who play the game but I think it's a bit rude to ask for more when you are already provided unlimited "free samples".

Bones
think it's a bit rude to ask for more.
pfft they are going to wipe our levels which means along time of hard working would gone (years for some old F2P's) :(
as i said basic pack doesn't push us to play again
so as a homins we want a really rewards or ...
we used to help ppl from different races and guildes and now they are subb players "grace of us" ( i do not want to say that but i have to ..)
