Maybe an old player could confirm that. But I believe I remember reading here and there that old players, whose subscriptions had expired, and who tried to come back, actually had to do so with a new account on a free trial basis. If they wanted to replay with their old formerly subbed character, they had to subscribe to the old account again. CSRs generally are willing to help through this process.

But if this is true, anyone who plans to subscribe for just one or two months during the server merge might find that that account will be stuck either in a subscription, or cannot be played with.

And I wouldn't mind. I understand that some people may be in trouble finding the money to play right now. But I also understand that a company at least has to cover all cost by some margin.

I'd encourage that those individuals should contact support and see what they can do to help with the issue. Ask politely(!) and don't demand. Those that have multiple 125er levels and are still on a free account, must know that everybody else is subsidizing them...

I am wondering if a f2p pays for 1 month to get through merger then keeps levels and stops paying for now until they can afford to sub regularly will have their toon saved until then

Naema i think that would work if you pay with visa via Bibit, if you do through paybycash (in any form) your acc gets locked after that month, tho i think that devs would change that after this mess =P

Your accounts gets also locked, if you pay by visa. I know it :)

i want to say : please do not force F2P's to pay .
if ryzom allow players to stay F2P's as long as they want so please respect your rules
and F2P's will subb when they're able to .

personally i was planning to subb after 2 months or so when i mini-mastred all my skills
(i can not subb atm for some reasons)
finaly i do not think that a basic pack would push us to play this lovely game again and pay for it one day ( when we could )

#21 Report | Quote[en]

eruv, your idea is simple and yet reasonable, if you pay for one month you should be able to return to your ald account of F2P while keeping the levels up to lvl 125, simple and useful for all parts involved, currently its not possible (im no longer f2p, but i know well how f2p is like and many of you who have met me knew how my gaming was nerfed cause of f2p)

but as i said, f2p is a precarious condition, till the devs don't change the above said issue you'll have to expect to get back to lvl 1, if you truly love the game you should have a great experience re leveling your toon with all the knowledge you have now

who said that " f2p is a precarious condition" - so if things going like that when i am nearby hitting 125 and my situation doesn't allow me to pay at that moment devs would come and say " sorry we will wipe your levels and you will start over" !!!!

The devs did this for the players with years of experience in ryzom who have many real masters, just be happy people will be able to craft gear and stop complaining. You're able to play a great game because of us (paying community) , paying for the servers with our subs. You get a lot for free, stop being greedy.

Considering the amount of free help we provide in uni, I don't think any player should be considered greedy for wanting to continue as they have been...

Your free help in uni is not going to play for the servers...

Nor does losing subscribed players...

Reguardless:

500,000 * 10usd == ~ 3,000,000/month (being very generous elsewhere)
Even if F2P were 2/3 of the player base, that's still at least 1,000,000usd per month

Even with the best servers, and the best internet connection, it's more like 1,000,000 per year, rather than per month.

This is how MMO's can survive as long as they do, as long as they are not mismanaged.

No player run server will ever come close to those operating costs.

I seriously doubt the server cost has anything to do with the merge.

Player retention due to a more populated world probably does have a lot to do with it.

If I owned the Saga of Ryzom outright, I would be very concerned about the retention of F2P players, as well as the retention of willing open source programmers--considering the only thing keeping them is the good will of the company.

LOL ryzom does not have 500,000 ACTIVE players.... Im not sure how many but its a small community, hence why its been losing money for 4 years....

#28 Report | Quote[en]

lol probably 9/10 or even more accounts of those 500k are under the new f2p system.

the other bulk would be old p2p (but not paying anymore), and old f2p accounts that aren't really usable atm (might been wrong there have been more sorts of f2p types in the past).
Only a small fraction of those 500k users are still active and paying subs.

If devs can and want to do an extra gesture of good will then I would opt for it that they first move the old p2p ppl that might not have gotten the mail or are on holidays or unable to login atm and so on. I'm sure some of those would happy pay a month of sub to keep their chars lvls but just don't follow ryzom that closely anymore. Atleast those players have supported the game in the past.
=> atm it looks like only the subbed players are being saved now so winchgate does already leave some ppl that supported the game out in the cold, why would they save chars that have never supported the game? Most of those f2p are alts anyway.

probably not a good idea to ever delete data that can be used later...

offline storage really is cheap these days, so no reason to destroy player data or even server config data.

while server and network upkeep does constitute a fair amount of operation cost, I still think the primary reason for the merge is a more populated game world, which isn't such a bad thing--yet another thing F2Pers provide.

Also, the whole impression of F2P players in some way damaging the game is lost on me. I've played on both Ari and Aniro, (recently visited Leanon) and you really can't tell the difference between P2P and F2P--I hope that continues.

edit: and even at 9/10, thats still 500,000usd per month!! We should be very comfortable in our new home once we get through this. Not to mention the possibility of expanding at a later time. (another reason to NOT delete anything)

Reading this is honestly hilarious, where do you get the idea that Ryzom is some huge money maker? You can see a huge difference betweenf f2p and p2p players, f2p players generally dont last... how long have you been around?
