Hello,

Playing in a roleplaying way on Aniro, and wishing to go on, such way, possibly after this new beginning, i wondered how to have RP with an international community.

I think the best is to use the native languages of Ryzom.

Where can i find the "Taki Zoraï" (Zoraï language) for Arispotle or Leanon, in order to try to unify it, and then have a way to burn brains :p , and have roleplay going on ?

Thanks

http://en.ryzomnomnom.com/wiki/Taki_Zora%C3%AF is all that is translated to English from the French pages.

Ok, if it's all that is commonly used on Arispotle and Leanon, then it's not difficult to unify it, it's already just the translation of our work with french community.

Then the work is "just" to translate more, develop more, and have peoples learn to use it.

I have found that some of the translation in the English Lore is a little off.

For example:

Shizu
English Lore indicates that this is a guild leader.
English Lore

The Shizu

  • These are the leaders of the clans and families Zoraï kwaï (guilds) which have passed the Initiation Rite.
  • In the Assemblies of Circles, clans are represented by their Shizu.
Zoraï Theocracy

On the other hand, the Lexicon of Taki Zoraï says:
Shizu : family, guild, clan, tribe

and taking from the Lexicon, guild leader would be Shizu Kya (-ito/ko)

So, standardizing Taki Zoraï will be a good thing.

I will be happy to help in any way I can.

First time I see those game languages :)
Very interesting. I do speak french and english, but still find those game languages interesting and fun

The idea might be good but there is one big disadvantage - every new player would have to learn theses languages making it a very big hurdle when wanting to participate in the RP

The most common greetings are easy to learn but everything going further will make it much harder so new players might feel alienated (which seems to be one of the reasons why they want to make the char wipe)

Another thing I thought about was to simply on every community getting its "own" race (eg. french = matis, german = fyros, english = tryker and the others are zorai) but I don't think that'll be possible either...

Absolutely not. I've been Zoraï for 8 years. I'm not bringing Gorran back to the new server but I will absolutely be playing another Zoraï.

Jamis, you're right, it will be a burden to learn this new language. but it will make everyone equal.
The RP languages are designed as simple as possible (easier to learn than french or german for those who aren't), and the key when learning a language, is using it.

Let me tell you the funny thing : when i first played ryzom, about 1 year ago, i found it strange and ridiculous to make those RP languages, when rolepaying, we have other things to care about, already.
But in the end, i probably began the most fluent Taki Zoraï player of Aniro, and enjoyed "speaking" it, and developing it a little. ( I wrote or adapted a few songs, some Haiku, and speaked a lot ). Well, maybe i'm a little special :)

The world of ryzom don't need much vocabulary, usually.
Anyway, for events, there will be probably translations for the 3 communities, in the beginning.
Long term thinking, i still have this plan, and i'll make RP lessons about Taki Zoraï.
No risk trying anyway.

and thanks Runku'lam for the offer

Well I've always looked in envy to ppl that can RP like that but I don't see myself learning those languages except from the basic words, It's just to time consuming for me, and I rather spend my time slacking at the stables in Fairhaven.

Can you explain pls how this works since there are 5languages I guess tryker, zorai, matis, fyros and marauder
=> does that mean ppl who speak tryker don't speak with ppl that speak Zorai? If that's how it is then it just seems worse to and basicly the same like we are gonna have with english (spanish+russian => but most of em have adapted to english), french and german
Just looks like the thing you propose is 5 languages against 3 or even worse would almost mean 8languages in total that's spoken

pls correct me if I'm wrong

Guildie just made a good point, why don't we all learn the language of Ghuiss/Cidre, I'm finally starting to understand him after 6 years so might be an intresting project :p

Gorran I know that that was just one of the first (rather weird) ideas I had when I first thought about the language issue ;-)

Feylin I didn't only mean the hassle of having to learn a language but the point of view from the outside...

Lets make a RL sample: Your going to Switzerland - what languages would you expect the people to speak? French, German and Italian (and maybe English but not in their day-to-day conversations) now you arrive and have to find out that they speak neither but use Esperanto instead. That is the situation a new player will find himself in ;-)

I for one wouldn't mind people using those languages but have been playing to seldom over the last 2 years to really learn such things.
I'm bad at learning languages, even so I'm rather well versed in German, English and Danish(in that order) and can understand bits of French (as I had to learn either that or Latin in School) and can even understand some tiny bits of Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese just because they are somewhat similar to the languages I already know (not talking about Dutch, Norwegian and Swedish here as those are obvious). Furthermore I've started to understand a little bit (spoken) Japanese because of my love for Anime ;-)

Heh, Suboxyde, you're right, for a character who wish to speak with all nations ....
My idea was centered on events about one nation only, but regrouping the 3 communities.
We'll probably stick with instant transaltions.

Doesn't mean i won't develop Taki Zoraï, for fun, and those who'll share it :)

I got another suggestion about languages.

In general i think it will work somewhat similar to what we had on Arispotle in the past. Some french and german players won't be able to say more than 'hi', 'go away' or 'let's share' in english. But we did have some russian, spanish and italian players who were not speaking english well before.

But: We can ask every player to add a first line into their ingame info/profile indicating all spoken language in a generic matter.

Like:

Lang: en(+), de, es(-)

---

About that idea to group up communities by nation: i hate it. I don't want WW-3 in ryzom :-)

---

P.S.: we could add another line for volunteer tanslators. Like:

Lang: en(+), de, es(-)
Trans: en-de, de-en

Well I'm not saying everyone should speak english, if you check the uni language debate we had some time ago you'll see I'm all for different languages.
But like Ulykus has said I rember joining kami toukons years ago on ari with the question from Stun 'Guild you join' and that's all what he was able to say back then he did learn english ingame verry well and quite fast. I've met other players like Bolos,Masac and others that did pick up english in our guilds quite fast.

Hi Ulykus,

this first line is a very good idea.
Would like to see this suggestion in Leanon and Aniro Forums, too
inside their discussions about RP and language issue.
