#169 Report | Quote[en]

I think the biggest issue people face is not so much the fact of starting over from scratch, but the fact that if things are so dire as to need such a desperate action then the future looks very bleak and it would seem a waste of time starting over if it's unlikely to have much of a future

That and the fact that many long term players simply don't have the time they used to have years ago so have no hope of regaining what they lost anyway

I see the point that the community is what makes the game special and some of that community may remain for whatever time Ryzom has left, but that doesn't provide any incentive to invest any serious grinding time into a game who's days seem to be numbered, and it's not much of a game if you're just bumbling around aimlessly with no real commitment.

In fact I think the community aspect will be damaged somewhat by the merger - playing on a server with people you have no way of communticating with produces its own set of issues which I'm only too familiar with having played a primarily Korean MMO in the past

It's a sad state of affairs, but I believe Ryzom's glory days are long gone if this is the only way forward

Hello from Aniro !

Be sure that we also are very concerned about this very very very bad news. Upset, sad, mad, we all feel the same.

We hope we shall find a solution even though it seams to be a sweet dream :(

The only positive thing is that we will have the great pleasure to meet you all guys ! It will probably be a super mess and I hope we will have a lot of fun.

I'm pretty sure it won't last a lot (*), so be ready to enjoy !!!!

See you soon !

(*) I won't pay for that of course, I'm not that dumb ^^

I think if you are gonna do this, the least you can do is make all currently unsubbed accounts active until the wipe, At least then we can go and take screen shots and things of our characters and say good bye to our friends before they are erased forever. In other words if you are going to skrew us at least give us something in return.

Just sayin'.

UTC probably.

As for the announcement. Reading through it it seems like it's a suicidal decision for Ryzom. I already see long time subscribers leaving, everyone that remains is in poor spirits... If the community leaves then Ryzom will die. The community is the best part of ryzom. Without the community there will be no more Ryzom.

EDIT:
Stuff like wiping characterss is acceptable only on some F2P private servers, that is including the fact that most of them have rates of x10 up to x 300 or more enabling players to recover their end game character in an instant. IMHO something like this seems unaceptable on a P2P MMO since some all time players invested a ton of money in this game and the team in charge shouldnt simply take it away from them. It's simply morally wrong.

PS: The 2x exp rate for Surscribers is some kind of bad joke...

Ive sent my message. 2 accounts unsubbed. if they change their minds about the total wipe I'll reconsider.

Oh dear,

As a very new player to ryzom - I can only say it guts me beyond all recognition to be reading this.....

I SERIOUSLY HOPE THE DEVELOPERS ARE READING THE PLAYER COMMENTS AND NOT RESPONDING BECAUSE THEY ARE FURIOUSLY TRYING TO FIND AN ALTERNATIVE SOLUTION!!!!

I can say this for certain - without meeting the veteran players in game, who guided and cherished me to not far from my first master - i would have stopped playing way before subscription - No doubt about it.

MY SUB IS OWED TO THEM AND NOTHING ELSE!!!!!!!!!!!! (those ghosts know who they are)

The level difference between me and much older players only did one thing, and that was to keep me going - sure i felt overwhelmed - but why would that make me want to leave??? - It only gave me the high standards (and a long subscription) to aim for.

I will log after the reset - i might even play a little - i have about 4 1/2 months of a 6 month sub to use up.

But to the developers - if you can do this to loyal people who have subscribed for many years - I don't trust you!!!

Enjoy my money - because with so many names i have seen across atys in my short time there, so peeed off i doubt you will be getting anymore of it.

If the name issue was a big concern for the server merge, why not just append our names as the Uni channel displays them now.

I personally would not mind if you made my name or my unsubbed character names have my original server added after it just to keep all the work I have done over the years.

Added benefit of this would be to show off our origins. Not only that, a way to display that one may not speak the language of others as well.

Don't wipe us due to some silly reason as to make a rash choice based on name conflicts. IMO it is ok to level the server history but not the players. Many of us have pride in the things we have obtained that would be gone for good.

I want my names to read (Arispotle) at the end instead of logging on to noob armor and nothing. Then you will have avoided me never logging into a paying account again. I am sure many others would be ok with this.

Don't clear the forest just to see the trees......

This is really bad news. For me it means that I will most likely stop playing Ryzom at all. Made some friends here, but I can keep the contact alive with mail and messangers, too.

Please think it over again, deleting all chars is the worst you can do. You destroy everything with this action.

Why not merge accounts to one server? I'm sure if one really wants, this must be possible. Name conflicts could also be solved, e.g., the oldest char can keep it's name and the others must choose a new name. That would be a solution everyone could live with.

Well I still hope that you will change your mind.

If not: I suggest as many subbed players as possible should cancel their subscription now in order to show their disagreement. Maybe this could be a signal to them and make them change their mind? If they delete all chars, it will be the beginning of Ryzom's end.

Please, go back to the drawing board. Figure out a reasonable solution. Use some engineering ingenuity.

If you want to get rid of all the Dappers, get rid of the dappers.
Do a real merge (not a deletion) with the names changed.
Remove all land/guild ownership but let people keep their xp and items.
The battles will rage righteously with merged servers and a blank slate of a world for everyone to stake out.
Whatever you do, don't make everyone start over.
Do not take away everyone's hard earned time and effort.

Eat some humble pie, admit it was a mistake to even consider it, and beg for forgiveness from all of the people who pay to subscribe.

If you follow through with this, I see no reason to trust the company to ever preserve the integrity of protecting the time that so many put into the game. To take that away is wrong, economically, personally, as game developers, from a business perspective, moral perspective, there is no way to defend it.

And to say that the challenges are too difficult to overcome? We landed people on the moon damnit. You can merge servers and come up with a better solution than this.

I know for a fact it isn't impossible. "Technical issues" are never impossible to overcome.

I don't know what universe you're living in if you think merging MMORPG servers while preserving some items (doesn't need to be all), xp and social ties isn't possible. Change what you need to in the underlying game world, make some concessions here and there, but do what is right for the players and the game.

I would be happier to pay a little more if they hired a real programmer (you know the kind of guy who actually codes in C/C++ etc), or at least payed for some advertising, more than all fantasies with web development, events, marauders, and other fluff.
Winch Gate has programmers. I know 2-3 of them ( 2 I know for sure to be Winch Gate employees, the 3rd I am not so sure ).

Not to mention that there are us outside of the company who contribute to Ryzom ( making tools and whatnot ), even if it's not very obvious for the players.
