Well, You can add me to the "find another game" group. Bye to all my Atys friends.

#142 Report | Quote[en]

Yea same Here. Not gonna waste my time playing again if they are just gonna do the same thing again down the road. Ill just go to another game that actually will stay around and care about their loyal community.

#143 Report | Quote[en]

Well I have a couple of months until my sub will elapse, thus I'll be there when the new server will come up. Yet I have no hope whatsoever that many will follow. And I won't try to regrind my 250 levels or so. I expect the final shutdown during the next months.

I sit here at my same desk where I have played Ryzom for over 6 years, amazed and shocked. I will always remenber the many treks across our little root ball, the many op wars, NPC hunts, pvp skirmishes, and the great LAG. But most of all I will remember you, the Ryzom community. Love me or hate me it is up to you, but personally I loved every moment in game. I will miss staying up well past a reasonable time killing one last boss, or waiting for supreme mats to pop. *sniff* Farewell my friends, I will not be resubbing my toons. I will let Iwishiwasfive die with dignity standing proudly at the Fairhaven Stables where he has been for these many years. Thank you to my ever-loyal alts Vmax, Jackoba, and Jaslene. You have made this game so much fun for me. Last but certainly not least thank you to Sarifina for introducing me to this game, and for putting up with all the times I was up late, or scarfing down dinner at the computer desk, or was late for something because I was trying to finish up in game. Ryzom will be deeply missed.

P.S.

In this modern computer world I find it difficult to believe that the player information will be lost due to technical difficulties. The world is full of programmers that could solve the issue, many of which play Ryzom. If you need help resolving an issue please let us help!

I think you should all stop moaning! You think they came on this decision lightly? This is clearly a last ditch effort and i think its a good idea could bring about a new community and new challenges! I personally cant wait to start again! The new players will be useful again! everyone will have to work together to get the economy going again!

This will be alot of fun! Cya all soon

As I understand it from reading the OP, the difficulties were financial ones not technical ones. Programmers cost money, and changing code takes time.

Ryzom was my first ever MMO experience. I have so many good memories of hunting groups and people staying up waay past midnight to get "just one more level". It was heaps fun. And the reason the Ryzom community became what it is today is due to those experiences in the early days of the server, where we all realised we needed to band together in order to succeed in the game. Ryzom is the only game where getting into a "Pick Up Group" (PUG) was almost always A Good Thing (tm).

If you missed it the first time, I'd highly recommend just subbing for the first three months, at least, and finding out what that experience is like. There will be no high level crafters who can make you your Q90 2h weapon, or diggers with a full set of supreme mats to make your Amps especially good. No guilds will have a built up stock of boss mats, and players will have to get together regularly for such things as TP tickets.

I think those memories I had were special, but I also believe that I will have a whole bunch of new ones when the new Shard opens. I'm looking forward to it, despite the fact that I know I'll have to go through "it" all over again (getting Knowledge 3 in Foraging, for example, will be rather painful, but I can bear it I'm sure).

All I can say is, the way the game started was the reason this community is so great. So here's your chance to experience that first hand. Don't miss it!

I do not think they came to this decision lightly, Effex, but I do think that they didn't (and haven't) really evaluated the consequenes.  I think this because of the many changes that have been made in the past that have aimed in a direction that the majority of the population (at least in Arispotle) has clearly shown that it does not want to go.

I think that they believe what was said at the beginning post.  I just think that they are wrong about how the oldtimers (the people who have supported this game through its trials and tribulations) will react.  The postings here are a good sample.  There are a few who agree with the devs and a large majority who do not.

I think that this is a last ditch effort, as you say.  I think the ditch is deep, full of quicksand, and that this decision will kill the game.  Instead of a clean death, however, it will linger in pain.

It is clear that the merger of the shards is needed.  I do not see, cannot explain, and will not forgive the desecration of the effort, love and patience that we (and you) long time players have put in. Escpecially when that mutilation of our chattels and skills is clearly not necessary.

It was a huge shock this morning, thought it was a cruel joke at first. But as I was sitting at my desk, talking on CeB, it seems like there might be hope after all. I will be losing my (15) alts, and two alt guilds - mostly used for mats that I dug - and would one day craft into something really awesome, but in return, I am now more excited about playing than I have in a long time. Moonie will be back.

i don't think going back to skills in lvl 1 is a bad thing, what i do think is rotten is not to offer some compensation for subbed accs (im still on f2p and assume the risks of that), the full wipeout of items i also think its stupid, we should be able to keep at least a mount full and for subbed to get as minimum compensation an amount of skill points to spend on start, and the basic possibility of keeping your name since reputations take a lot of time and effort to build (more if you're into RP)

as for challenges, i welcome them, as will many new players ive encountered during my few months here that felt there was little challenge.

I know this change is hard, and in itself a bad idea (or very poorly executed), but if you like the game for it's community i'd sugest you wait a while and see how this unravels and if this is truly the end, then stick around for a good funeral.

Still waiting for Wynchgate to chime in and give us an update on 'their perspective'. We need some flesh on the bare bones of their initial announcement.

If their PoV is a valid one, then they will only gain more sympathy and/or understanding from us by wading into the bloody trenches and more clearly delineating their strategy & intent here. And that can save them a lot of Subscription loss, so it'd be a Win/Win for all involved.

If their PoV is flawed or misguided, then owning up to the fact will be a step in the right direction. :)
No pride need be lost here. Honesty's the best policy. Behind the masks we're all just human, and humans have a lengthy legacy of foolish moves & agendas in their collective history. And there's still time to rethink the strategy.

But saying nothing at all until the 22nd is prolly the worst choice of all. :/

People's morale & spirit are sinking by the hour here (except for the Lumper minority). Dragging out the silence is only doing more damage and can only lead to further misunderstandings and disgruntlement.

An agreement between providers & their paying customers takes interaction from both sides of the fence. Time to bring them to the negotiating table... we need an update. Or better yet, a moderated Q&A session.

Pull up a chair, WG, let's get talkin'. Your beer night's over. Time to get brave and face the homins.

Always argue with an idiot... it's the only way they can get Experience! :)

It's just catastrophic
All communities are shocked
The end is near
They take the players for shit
The investment is not saved
We have forgiven many things
But this is too
This is the end

Support to all those who have sacrificed part of their lives during these 8 years, like me.

Aniro is in shock and we are 99% who do not walk back Atys.

goodbye

(Sorry for my English, it is limited)

Artemisfowl, situation on Leanon is similar as on Aniro and here. Already a majority of old players did announce not to reconnect while a few will. The need for a merge is completely accepted in spite of all pains it may cause such as loss of beloved items, mats, apts, meks, and guildhalls. But the char wipe is going too far.
I am looking forward to the opening of the new server as I have some time left until my sub ends. I am curious whether Ryzom will exist until then.

On the forums yes. But the longer I was ingame, the longer I talked to people privately and on Teamspeak, more and more went from "No way" to "I'll have a look". Let the first wave of anger wash over the forums. After two weeks when we hoepfully got more informations and when the first rage is over, we will see who will be there and who not. Don't get me wrong, I don't think it is a good idea. But there are many who - after the anger which is the baddest advisor one can get - think about it and many come to the conclusion that we can do it.
But well, that's no reason to drop the resistance or stop telling the Devs that the reset is not the best idea they had.

I play since 7.5 years, I invested nearly 560 days of gaming time in my toon. I will continue playing together with my guild and I'm looking forward to meet many new people. With or without my levels and gear.

I think it will be fun! being an elder it got kinda boring sometimes .. bring back life to the game!

#155 Report | Quote[en]

Clearly I don't know how many players will leave but I fear many will, and most probably many long term players. And many other old players won't come back as they used to during the time I could observe life in Ryzom. I fear the losses will outweigh the savings of closing the servers leading to a final shutdown.

I have suggested a procedure where everybody starts at Silan from scratch, but gets her data restored manually by a CSR after a while, e.g. after having done all city welcomer missions in all capitals. That would keep the workload of manual transfers at bay, and players would have an incentive to play and get back their old status they have struggled and suffered for.

This would, in addition, end the paralysis of activities on the still existing servers which can be observed now as a consequence of the announcement. As leveling has become senseless, many, including me to a wide extent, stopped most of their activities.
