You need to be attacking higher level critters as you gain skill levels. Yubos give good XP for a level 1 player but no XP to a level 100 player.

As you level up the skill trees branch. If you advance the various branches as they appear, you will eventually acquire a surplus of skill points. For example, the trees "Offensive Affliction", "Elemental", "Defensive Affliction" and "Standard Healing" ALL give you Magic Skill points.

Yeah, leveling up beyond lvl 35 gets really slow on silan. Some do stay a bit longer but it's common to leave silan for ml at about lvl 35 after you completed all or almost all quests on silan. By the way, both silan and all the continents on ml belong to the planet atys.

Dmatt -- You will get many different answers on that.

Pros --

You can harvest higher quality materials and easily advance your skills to the 50-100 range (limit 125 if you are a free player, limit 250 for subscribers).

You have access to crafters who can make you better stuff (and will do so at the least provocation). You have direct access other homins who can help you gain the levels (see above).

You will gain access to a MUCH larger world with many more things to see. Once you have been trekked to the other continents, you will be able to visit all the varied ecosystems of Atys.

You will be able to participate in the guild structure. (You can join on Atys, but the activity is limited.)

Cons -

You won't be able to run the entire length of the play area in 5 min real time.

Mission givers will not usually give you armor and weapons or extra experience boosts. They will give you more knowledge instead.

ummm... can't think of any more Con's.

Some new players want to be strong for a while before going to ml and be newish again for quite some time. Some want to provide useful crafts to others and doing so on silan is a lot easier (considering the time spent to master it) than on ML. Others might want to know Silan and all game mechanics available perfectly before moving on - or set personal goals like finishing Kirosta solo. It can be worth the time spent if you like those things and don't want to be 'high-level' as soon as possible.

However on Silan most toons beyond lvl 40 are alts of people who got another toon on ML. And ML is the 'real' Ryzom game, Silan is more of an isolated prelude.

You don't HAVE to leave Silan when you get to level 35, but if you have got to that level in Melee and Magic, and around level 30 in Forage and Craft, then you are ready to leave and there's no real reason to hang about.

Fyrosfreddy was born in Sekovic which was on the original Fyros noobie island. I could never imagine lasting there past 20. Silan is a tutorial; it's purpose is to "learn" the game. Outside of that "learning experience" there is not a single reason for your toon to stay in Silan.

1. Yes you get cats, weaps and armor as quest rewards but the player made stuff is much better on mainland,

2. Yes there are easy mobs on Silan, but there are the exact same mobs on mainland.

3. If you create a 2nd toon, there is no reason at all to stay on SIlan.....you can leave at level 1 and your 2nd toon will not be gimped in any way. You already learned the game on 1st toon, redoing those lessons would serve littl purpose unless you "missed" something.

The best thing about Silan is that it "forces" you try each of the skills. When most of the old timers started, they concentarted on just a few skills and didn't try the other ones at all till much letter. Silan graduates are much wiser in this regard.

Although, it can be nice to take advantage of the free materials Sterga Hamla on Silan gives you during his missions.

I'd recommend all new players stay on Silan and finish the quests for fight, magic, craft and harvest skills. The tuitorial is excellent and if you leave Silan you will not have the opportunity to complete the tuitorial on the mainland. As Ryzom is much different than any other mmorpg, I think the time spent learning its unique features is well spent. New players on the mainland often ask "how can I go back to Silan?", when they realize they are missing game information they would have learnt from the tuitorials. The answer is -- you can't. If you want to learn what you missed you'd have to start a new toon on Silan. My second toon left at lvl 1 and I had no regrets doing so-- having learnt from my first toon.

My thoughts are different, I have made a new couple toons just because of the joy of being on Silan and helping new ones. It is fun to re-experience the newness of it all through the eyes of people who don't know whats going on. Kind of like having children i guess.
Plus, there seems to be a higher density of people on Silan, more people to help one another and experience the joy of discovery. Of course, I have to keep my mouth zipped, lol.
Otherwise, if you haven't experienced the ML yet, then by all means go and enjoy it, but much later you may see my viewpoint, so enjoy Silan as long as you can!
