The free trial will last forever, but you will be limited to a max of level 125 in each skill (standard is 250).

Going to p2p gives you the proper skill cap, as mentioned, and you also get more storage in the form of mektoub packers, an apartment and ability to take things out of the guildhall (if you are also high officer in the guild).
