Would it be possible to send a real email notification (sent to the account/billing email address) once your character receives an ingame mail?

This could be made optional and disabled by default.

I guess it would not hurt to duplicate this in the mail options or at least have a note or link to refer to the forum options.

Another point. It's not really clear what the option is about, could be to make your email public visible to others because when the field is empty it looks like this:

Email: ____________

No description, just the empty field. Only after you fill in some email you will see the options, which kind of explain the functionality:

Email: name@example.com

[ ] Notify on new mail
[ ] Notify on new forum post

This could be easily fixed by always showing the options and instead have them "disabled" until you enter a valid/verified email. Not sure if the ingame browser supports disabled form elements, though, a short description could help in that case.
