Greetings!

I just joined the community on Atys about a week ago and have been having a blast. I have reached the point where I need to make decisions about which areas I should focus my skills.

I would like to be useful in the game, so what positions are the least represented and most needed? If you could have a certain person with a certain developed skill around, what skill would you want them to have?

I am mostly interested in magic and crafting. My initial thoughts are healing magic and jewelry crafting, but I would like to see what other ideas you all have. I am a Tryker.

I look forward to seeing you in game!

Hi Meerwyn,

Can't answer your questions as I'm new myself. Just thought I would say hello to another new homin :)

I'm a Fyro living in Pyr.

Tough question to answer, but for combat in general I can say that healing is great, elemental is great, melee is great. Basically, everything is needed, and since everyone can do everything most people level them approximately equally.

For the crafting bit, jewelcrafting normally drives people insane, considering that you have to level 6 trees at once. That means there are usually less master jewelcrafters than the rest crafts.

This all means nothing though, I would instead recommend you to do whatever you find fun. If you love blasting stuff to bits, do some ele, when you get bored with that, go and harvest for some crafting, then do some healing.
Thats the great thing on atys, you can do anything you like, anytime you like. There are no "positions" to fill in the endgame, every mastered craft will always be appreciated by those around you. The "endgame" fights that you can do often requires both high melee and high elemental from the DPS, as you have to switch halfway through, and at the same time good heal so you can help out the healers in a pinch.

"It's shite being tryker! We're the lowest of the low. The scum of Atys! The most wretched, miserable, servile, pathetic trash that was ever shat into civilization. Some people hate the Matis. I don't. They're just wankers. We, on the other hand, are COLONIZED by wankers. Can't even find a decent culture to be colonized BY. We're ruled by effete arseholes. It's a shite state of affairs to be in, Marceline, and ALL the fresh air in the world won't make any ****** difference"

The main aim is of course to have fun. If you want to be useful to other players the best thing to have is Heal but this is something all homins should have. You can't train Heal on your own - you will need a partner who fights while you heal them.

So in addition to that :-

Jewel Crafting is a good choice - it is something that is useful to any player whether they are melee warriors, mages or foragers because you can build in HP boost, Stamina boost, Sap boost, Focus boost or a combination.

If you want to craft stuff, you will need raw materials (mats). You can forage or buy these but the higher level stuff is not often available from merchants. Besides its fun to find + dig your own mats.

If you are going to forage mats, you will need to be able to defend yourself or take a bodyguard (especially for the higher level mats which are always in the more dangerous regions).

If you want to be rich and famous, find a way to craft Goo Waders - I can't think of anyone who wouldn't want a pair of those . . .

It's bad luck to be superstitious . . .

If you do choose jewel crafting those mats are easily gotten in Tryker. It's a pretty safe spot on the lake in Loria.

Do note that the overwhelming majority of your requests will consist of either HP or Focus jewels (or other equipment), even for Magic (sap) and Melee (stamina) users. This is due to the HP credit stanzas that let you turn your health pool into another resource for actions. Conserve skill points by skipping Sap and Stamina boost stanzas until much later.

Nice little plug for Lakes =) Can't say I blame you, Lakes is peaceful and is second only to Prime Roots in beauty, imo =)

Lakes does have the single best 1-200 digging zone in the game: Enchanted Isle near the Kami TP. It is 100% safe and never suffers from wandering aggro, and there is every resource you need, including several excellent quality resources. The only drawbacks are the lack of a Hawker for temporary storage, max of q200 materials, and access itself becomes less safe if you declare for Karavan (only Kami and neutrals are allowed to use that teleport).

Each q250 region has its own nice digging areas, and each suffers from the occasional wandering aggro. You'll be able to find what you're looking for in any area you pick, with varying difficulties from region to region. Desert, in the Flaming Forest (FF) is also a reasonably safe Jewels (and weapons) q250 dig area, with a nice tribe nearby for protection if you do happen to need it.
