My trusty old machine is dying and the new one doesn't want to play nice right now. Here's the new machine's specs:

64 bit Win 7 Pro with service pack 1
i7-4700MQ CPU 2.40 GHz
8.00 GB RAM

Video card
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770M
Driver 9.18.13.3788 from 19 May 2014

I start Ryzom, the familiar little Ryzom logo screen appears followed immediately by the dreaded crash dialog pasted in its brief entirety below:

I've fiddled with drivers and checked everything that came to mind and that I remember from working with similar crashes and Ryzom over the years. No joy so far. Any suggestions?

I installed DirectX 9.0c (Version: 9.29.1974 / Date Published: 4/18/2011)
and it helped (I have win7 64bit).

I had error during installation process but I tried again and installation ended without errors.

The game works fine since than.

you need a "direct-x redistribute 2010 june install", should fix it right up. (which is dx9c)

Weird -- I thought that problem was solved for most computers long ago.

Basically you have to upgrade DirectX from Microsoft.

It's a downgrade. Windows 7 comes with DirectX 11 or so, whereas the game uses routines from the DirectX 9 generation (which for some reason are not backwardly supported by the new version).

So, as TalkIRC suggests, you must install an older DirectX version.

bittty and mj are correct, it's a strange fix. after looking into is, what happens is that dx11 lacks a few files that were a part of dx9.0c , and the new files, also like previously stated, are not backward compatible. so once again we find a way somehow some way to make it work. hope this will fix your problem.

Yup, Yakapo was kind enough to send me the fix this morning. As soon as I saw it, I remembered having to do the same thing on the previous laptop too.... Definitely need to store the DX install file in my Ryzom directory for future use. ;)
