Greetings!

I know this topic has been kicked to death 1000 times over but here it goes again. There have been numerous requests for a general chat tab, we all know that. That request has been pretty much denied or ignored. So, how about we all suggest a Q&A channel, named as such?

In my opinion, there is nothing worse for a MMO then seeing a chat labeled as "Universe" being dead as can be. It is rather misleading, if nothing else rename it "Q&A" chat.

I have been guilty of useless chit chat as well, but it sure does make the game seem more alive.

Yes, I know I can post a suggestion in the feedback area, but pretty sure it is already there. Would just like to get an open discussion on the why's or why nots of adding an additional channel.

Thoughts?

I am in full agreement with you uni channel we all nip in there and have a blast now and again .and it dose show that the universe is alive .Adding another tab for Q&A would be brill we are a great community and would not ignor when the tab lights up .
Also i feel were not like other games that the uni channel will be used for spam and we all know when enough is enough on a subject and this has been shown from time to time when normal players will go in and stop the spats.
We are capable of behaving :D

I agree to renaming the current universe chat to Q&A because of the misleading effect it has on new players, but don't agree to having another social chat.

We need a social chat channel. Either current uni officially gains that function or another channel has to be created.

Yesterday Sywindt got heavy handed and muted several people for harmless chitchat (in character...) in uni.
I KNOW at least one of those people as a result cancelled their account there and then, after several years.
A big factor in that was that all day long there's no GM in game and people can get harassed and insulted without penalty, but when one does appear friendly and kind people get penalised for harmless chatting.
That's the main problem right now, IMO.

The uni chat has been around maybe a year, it was previously only used in beta for easy communication. That chat channel has shrunk atys, it would be hard to imagine unless you were used to it not being around..

I haven't spoken much with sywindt, but as far as 'I'm concerned the GMs of ryzom left with jolt years ago. The volunteers today are more than likely previous and current players. Don't expect too much from them, but don't piss them off either, that's just stupid.

As long as you know the rules of Uni channel all is ok ...

1. be fluffy to the GMs you can chat for hours.
2. talk of cookies, hugs and love etc.
3. if no GM online, talk about anything.
4. answer every players question with the every detail of the skill tree their question is about and throw in some other details if you feel talkative.
5. when no gm is online, pretend to be a gm with "english only in Uni", this should only be directed at players you dont know or dont like, follow it with "I hate people from the country".
6. use the Q and A channel to annouce your arrive, afk status and departure.

The above are all "offical" uses for the Uni channel or at least have been since I return to the game.

Remember, the game is all about "The Community"!

I believe this statement is made in error. The uni chat, while used in 'beta', is still being used from 2006 till now. Last I checked that would be 4 years, and thus I would think the players would consider this an official channel, not something that should have been removed from beta.

When I get tired of the pointless chit-chat I turn off Uni, which then detracts my knowledge base from the players who have questions. Therefore, general talking does impact players in a negative way. As far as Universe being misleading to new players, I think as a whole, that it is not the new players misusing the channel.

Personally, I am not sure the big deal and why someone would quit over being asked to get back to Ryzom topics. I know I was about to put that person on ignore myself as I was getting tired of the second-by-second update of their game in Uni. Not sure if they were muted or not, but I can't say that I missed their chat in Uni, because I didn't.

When the CSRs aren't around most of us are more than willing to get back to topic when asked and make a team to continue our conversation with those we were "chit-chatting" with in Uni anyway. For the most part we all play nice with each other. But we all know there are those that don't and I am glad that the rules are enforced with a gentle yet firm approach when needed.

And finally... if you want a dedicated chat channel, you need to put it on the feedback site. Actually surprised this thread is still running.. haha

Some interesting thoughts.

First, regarding this thread still going, I would like to think that it is being left up because it is a discussion as to the impact that adding a new channel, or leaving things as is could cause.

Khandoma brought up one point I haven't even considered, that I do think would be of value. The tab lighting up when new chat is there... perfect!

I as well recall the days of no uni chat, and it was a pain as far as I was concerned. It did give the game a certain nuance if you will, but that was also the days of a higher population when it was more likely to have a few more people in regions at one time.

From the technical side, I think it would be easy to add... way back when they had the lore contests (early 05 maybe... I won a cool Ryzom hat that I still have) I recall that channel being turned on, and off as needed and you could reply in it.

Just a discussion is all :) Would be nice to hear any thoughts from the staff, if they are allowed :)

One other thing I would like to ask for... no offense intended, but all of the names that I see responding here are names that I would classify as "old timers." Love ya all to death, and I mean that, but would love to see some opinions from the new guys as well!

I'm guessing most of the new players don't really know that this in-game forum exists. Heck, can count six that I chatted with that are 150+ in a skill that didn't even know about the encyclopedia rites, and that is just wrong!

#14 Report | Quote[en]

I stumbled upon those rites early on, just because I had accidentally opened the Encyclopedia window. Its no surprise that no one knows about them when coming to the mainland of Atys.

Guess it depends on the gulid. We run missions, rites and fame runs for our new players so they learn about them in their first week.
