I am pretty new player on your game.
I do not pretend to represent the opinion of all players, far from that. I have been in your shoes, both as a game developer and later as a project manager. I know projects are made of trade-off. But.....

I would like to just pose for you 3 issues and 5 action points. My friend players, feel free to amend them if you want.
I just want to go beyond the weaning and ranting and see whether it is possible to move and change things.

1/ The wiping out of characters: it seems to be the most important issue (although not for me) of all players. So few questions to the developing team:
- Is it irremediable ?
- Can't we save and maybe later restore them ?
- Can't you delay of 1 months for the players to crowdsource a solution ?

2/ Double xp for subscribers: I hate the move toward play to win (p2w) you decided to take. The doubling of xp for subscribers will just create 2 distinct communities, precisely what you wanted to avoid and suppress.
FYI, just the wise decision of one of your competitor, a much awaited mmorpg (with btw, a similar scenario as Ryzom) : "We will not be Pay To Win. It is our feeling that free players are an important part of the user base and they add to the community. We don’t want those players to feel that they are at an unfair disadvantage just because they haven’t paid. While there may be things like skill gain increase boosts, we’re looking at lower increases than the 100%+ than has become standard in modern MMOs. We also don’t plan on adding items of power, such as potent armor, weapons or fittings. We do feel that players should earn whatever they get. That having been said, we do have to generate revenue in some way.". This is coming from the developer of The Repopulation project.
This is the reason why I decided to leave Ryzom.

Action points:

1/ To mark a protest, I suggest to all players to make the 12th of September a day of no-log on Ryzom. If you see how deserted are your servers, you might understand better the catastrophe you are moving toward.

2/ Anyone with any ideas to solve point the character wiping is welcome. I already heard about contributing to a server. I understand you need revenue. A company is built on short term by revenue, but on medium term by profit reinvested in development, marketing, research, new products and on long term, a company is based on public image. You just lost this. Maybe players could help you. When a cat is in the corner, this is when you see him jumping the highest.

3/ Why not proposing another innovative way to get revenue in addition to players ? Why not extra contribution ? I am ready to donate 1000-2000$ if you put something in place and I am sure some other players could as well.

4/ Delay the shut down of at least 1 month. Give us a very little time. We are not stupid. We are numerous. We can help you.

Give us a try.

Thanks

I'm in agreement here. I think it would be much more useful to keep XP the same, but limit non-sub players to level 100 (thus requiring a sub for their next title). Level 125 is too high for a non-paying player. It would mean players would deliberately not sub until they reach 125, which means lost revinue for Ryzom (the thing that's causing all this to start with). Level 100 is probably too high, I'd even go so far as to suggest a cap at level 50. It's long enough for newbies to learn the game enough to decide if they want to sub or not, which if I'm not mistaken is the whole point of a free trial.

I've played most of my levels without using cats, and 3k xp is more than enough to reach high levels without feeling like you're being fed candy. Just remember, dig and craft XP does not have a 3k cap right now.

I definitely agree with level limit of 100 or lower for free players. Even at a limit of 70 level, with all the skills available, Ryzom would be worth playing.
And with a subscription of $10, it would be worth subscribing as well

Yup can agree with that aswell a max skill of lvl 70-100 still is enough to show ppl the game but it's not that overpowered.

What about leaving the server closed for f2p players the first 2weeks or so, silan and the low lvl areas will be quite swamped with ppl already scrambling to lvl if we add all the f2p players in that mix it might just turn ugly.

+1. Though im getting the feeling the devs dont care about what we have to say anyway....

Well, I don't have much to contribute (still too angry/sad to form any semblance of coherent thought wrt this situation), but I fully support what's been said in this thread.

That would basically be a throwback to the past. If I remember correctly, there was a limited free trial just like that, back in 2006. Considering that the game did bankrupt not too long afterwards, it probably didn't help.

Why not go all F2P way? Make buyable armor dyes, new tattoos and haircuts, cosmetic armor designs, mektoub bodypaints / saddle designs, buyable player houses. It worked for other games... it doesn't have to be unbalancing.

I was one of those free trials back in 2006. I subbed because I had to and I don't regret it. People abuse the F2P accounts right now. A time based trial works best to prevent abuse of the F2P system by forcing people to sub, or get off and stop using the game's resources. Help support the game that you love, all of you F2P abusers.

Unfortunately, these shops items are not generating a large revenue. It needs to have something more than cosmetics like mounts (that are not killable).
I wanted to suggest to generate revenue from guilds. Like players who wants to enter in a guild must be subscribers and/or pay a small extra sub. Or better, people who want to create a guild will have to pay a one-time or a rental fee.
