1. Tool lIfe -Is it me or are tools wearing out faster ..... doing some jool grinding and my tools lasting 4,500 mats tops.

2. Success Percentage Way Down - Overcrafting 40+ levels, display says success rate should be 16% .... or roughly 1 in 6 ...... 100 crafts later have 2-3 successes.

I just had a birthday and took a nice hit to the noggin recently, but this is a drastic reduc tion compared to what I'm used to.

Does tool life decrease by number of mats crafted? I figured it was the number of actions (of which there are a lot when grinding jewels) but I'm not too sure.

#3 Report | Quote[en]

I may have misunderstood how it works, but I will throw this out for discussion too.

Yesterday I was overcrafting by 140 levels (1h ammo - 101 skill & relying on my 2h ammo - 250 skill). As expected, all my degrades were within the range q200-249. However, since my worse degrade (q200) was still more that +50 levels overcraft, I was expecting max exp on all crafts. However, I only got max exp on the undegraded q250 crafts.

Has it always worked this way? And if so, what is the benefit of overcrafting more than +50 levels?

I have found no benefit OC'ing by more than 50 levels. Kept records while grinding MA with 4 trees at same level and OC'ing by, 70, 60, 50, 40, 30 ..... basically did this by starting with same amount of mats and seeing how many levels I gained using say 1350 mats (bag + packer). For example....started below @ 165

Boots - Finished mats at level 173.7 OC'ing to 210 (Avg OC = 41)
Gloves - Finished mats at level 173.2 OC'ing to 200 (Avg OC = 31)
Sleeves - Finished mats at level 174.8 OC'ing to 220 (Avg OC = 50)

Hmmmm....probably right given my recent experiences.

I have never seen any benefit in OC'ing more then 40 lvls.Between failed actions and lost mats it has never seemed worthwhile.-Kil

I have seen no changes in probabilities. See the discussion thread on the question of the use of rubbarn tools. Small numbers of crafting actions (and yes 100 is a small number) have a high probability of falling away from the averages. (Yes, that's probability of probability... it gets confusing). However, over a 2,000 to 3,000 trials (still a small number as those who work in the field count things) it should come pretty close to what is shown in the preview window. At least it has for me.

Jola -- I did a series of data collections back when I was leveling my jewels (about 6-8 mo. ago) and found the same results (with, be it said, the same expectation of great xp). You get maximum reward only for complete success and that is capped at 300 xp/mat. When I mentioned this, I was directed to a website with the formula I had derived, derived at least a year before. (Memory fails, but I think it was Kalyndra who had done it.)

I have not noticed my tools wearing out any faster recently.

I didn't noticed any tool decay difference, but i didn't payed attention, so i can be wrong.

x Jola: it was always that way, at +50 level difference the exp is capped. There is no benefit in oc higher then +50 levels, in terms of exp.

I noticed that the http:\\www.adcguild.info domain name expired on 08.01.12 :(

I hope Kalyndra and Marrietta are doing well.

yes, it's always (well, at least for the last 3 years or so that I've been doing it) been that way.

Crafting exp is reduced by a percentage (I think, might be a fixed amount) for degrades, the amount depending on the amount of degrading.
So if you would have got 5k at max oc without degrades, and had enough degrade to gain a 5% penalty, you'd end up with 5000-250 = 4750 exp.

I checked tool wearing during armor crafting right now, on a sample of 1454 mats it was 52 per percent of tool life, i.e. 5200 mats over the lifetime. This is consistent with what I recall from my experiences: I usually dig for two packers, then craft, and the tool wears out during the third crafting series. I did not realize any change of wearout recently. Thanks to all for OC explanations, some was new to me.

Gave me 1.1 extra levels in my test (mssg 4).....I decided I wasn't gonna look over the short term .... like in mats per pull ... mats per hour more important than mats per pull .... using that logic, I tried to see how many levels Id get outta certain amount pof mats.

Sleeves got to 174.8 at 50 OC
Boots got to 173.7 at 40OC

Those reults are on bunnynet and included in the Mats Calculator spreadsheets that were put on the old forums back in 2007 .... moved to new forums in 2009.

BTW, for some reason new subscribers can't sign up on bunnynet. Until it's fixed, if ya want the Mats Calculators (3 available - Armor, Weapons, Ranged) , send me a IG e-mail w/a real e-mail address and I will e-mail them to you.

If ya wondering what they do .... you input ya bulk used (you, mount, packers ....whatever is with ya) and it calculates how many of each mat you should dig so that you don't have 0 of one mat and 136 leftovers of another when done.

I think Cral nailed it .... wear is prolly proportianal to number of crafts, not mats used .... Jools is my last craft so methinks Im noticing this cause Im only using 8 mats per craft as oppossed to HA which can have 40 :)
