No metals? What are the Karavan TPs made of? Shells and bones are made of calcium which is a metal btw, not to mention the iron in blood :P
For the Karavan things: probably iron BUT as Jena (and the Karavan) watched the "Green Explosion" of Atys they're probably from another Planet. And try to take a piece of the TP to craft your knuckles ;-)
Shells are made of Calcium carbonate (CaCO3 ; 1:4 ratio metal - no metal by the chemical definition)
If a normal human is talking about metals he doesn't think about everything other than H+He (Astronomy) or the Chemical definition but anything that has a metallic look (titan, silver, gold, iron, ...) so if a metal is bound to other things and thus doesn't look like metal it's not seen as metal by the public.
