This is true, but to trade with most tribes you also have to have good trading fame. For the majority of maras, all of their fames are below -50 so trading would be impossible. I assume that even for the new mara tribes (that I have max fame with) it would be difficult to impliment most trading. That is, if we are talking about like hawkers and such.
I won't go into too much detail, but suffice it to say that Rangers can suffer the same problem.

I like that idea a lot. I always found it strange that the roaming group associated with nearby tribes were never hostile towards you if the tribe themselves would kill you on sight. I believe that this would make the game far more interesting then…also, I believe that the roaming troops should also protect you just as the tribes would if your fame allows for it.
It would certainly make my life interesting!
