Additionally, check the stats for those things you buy from the merchants. There some really, REALLY expensive CRAP that players are making and selling that at expensive price. However, these items are WORSE than some cheaper items.
Additionally, a low level armor doesn't need to be of higher quality, and you will "outgrow" those "lesser" armor before they will wear out.
