The suggestion to right-click on the chat is normal. Sometimes I lose a tab/window myself and wind up right-clicking on the border of the chat window to control the chat as a whole instead of on the User tab to adjust only the User tab in order to get it back. Basically what Siela suggested, only a few pixels to the side.
