Updated client for ubuntu is available from https://launchpad.net/~ryzom-isv/+archive/ubuntu/ppa.

Unpack your current client under home/.ryzom (dot infront of ryzom). Install ryzom from ppa and it should find data files from home/.ryzom/data or it downloads whole ~7GB again.
