Depending on how many "a few" years are, you might even find the population up. There was a severe minimum in the population just before the release of the Linux and Mac versions (and the opensourcing of the code).
I find 20 to 30 homins in my friends list on most of the time at about 0300GMT, and am told that this is the slow time of day for the server. It's not a huge population, but it is active.
As Ulykus says, the markets are a little on the defunct side, but you can almost always get some stuff made if you're willing to wait a day to get the right person online.
