Somebody brought up the idea of making a FAQ for in game. I know there are a few out of game, but there isn't one here yet and together a few of us came up with some of the questions we find people wondering about or asking quite often and answered them to the best of our ability. I've also created an acronym guide (coming soon) for those feeling confused but don't want to ask.
Are there range weapons on silan?
Range weapons are only available on the mainland.
When should I leave silan? Should I be a certain level?
There isn't a specific level that is best. You just need to have a basic understanding of the game. Silan is for learning the basics so hopefully you won't be so confused while entering ryzom. It has quite a few unique qualities that take some getting use to. It is recommended that you do most if not all of the missions on silan. Plus the extra experience points are helpful.
Can I return to silan?
No, once you leave you cannot come back. This is why it is important to learn all you can from silan. You could of course make a new character and go back if you really wanted or needed to.
Can I repair my gear?
Nope, you just replace it once it breaks. Gotta keep the crafters in business!
When is the best time to use light/medium/heavy armor?
Light armor is most often used for magic and digging. Heavy armor is best for melee uses. Heavy armor has malus on it which causes your credits to increase is use so you will be wasting a ton of hp/sap/focus while in it. Medium armor can be used for both magic and melee (not recommended for digging because of malus). It has the benefit of giving you extra protection, but also it has some malus so it will harm your stats a bit more than light. For crafting it is best to wear no armor because as you craft it harms the hp of your gear (also jewels).
Can I dual wield weapons?
You can with certain weapons. You can have a 1h sword and dagger or two daggers.
Can I increase my bag size? What additional storage is available?
Your bag size stays the same no matter what. You can buy three packers and a mount. Packers have 500 bulk, mounts 300bulk. Apartments are also available to paid accounts with 2,000 bulk, and guild halls have 10,000 bulk. None of these are available on silan and packers and mounts can be bought at the stable boy.
Can my packers and mounts die?
Yes they can die a few ways. Gassing or exploding under a mektoub will harm it's HP and often enough kill it. Other ways would include Area of Effect (AoE) from tribes or mobs. Your animals will recover their health overtime. The safest place for them is inside the stables.
What happens when my animals run out of satiety/need food? Will it die if it doesn't get it?
Your animal will just stop running and only be able to walk. If there is a forage bale in its inventory then it will eat it once it needs it. Forage bales are available at the stable boy. You can force feed your animals by putting them in the stables and having the stable boy feed them.
How can I see my mount's stats and get it in and out of the stables?
Press shift+p to see your animals window. The first bar is red (only visible when out of stables) and is your animals health bar. The second bar is the satiety or hunger. The third bar is its bulk, how full/empty it is. You can right click on the animals name and have it enter/leave stables, follow you, stop, or free it. Do not hit free unless you want to get rid of it because you won't be able to get it or the items on it back.
How can I see what level I am?
Push "b" for your actions window. You aren't just one level on ryzom. You have multiple levels per skill.
What is the level cap?
You can level 63 skills up to level 250.

Is there a way to bind looting to a key
Unfortunately, no.
What are the disadvantages to a free to play (F2P) account?
On a free account you can only level your skills up to 125 instead of 250. You can still use and can get rid of death penalty with maxed skills. In addition, your storage is limited. You can only gain access to the storage in a mount. Items cannot be removed from apartments or guild halls on free accounts. They also do not receive permacats which double your xp continuously.
How can I invite somebody to team from a distance?
Just type "/invite {name}"
Why is there no pointer on my compass for my mission?
You can right click on the compass and in the drop down menu go to missions and select the mission you want, but not all missions have a pointer. You have to pay attention to what the mission giver says and find it on your own.
How can I report a bug or player?
On your player bar there is a question mark icon labelled "Help..." under the drop down menu click support and you choose a catergory. Explain the situation the best you can. Screenshots are very helpful.
What is a CSR? How can I contact one?
A CSR is a customer service representative. These few people are volunteers taking the time to help us with any issues we come in contact with. They can be contacted through tickets, checking in game with "/who gm", through email, and through the support chat called Freenode. You can access the channel via an irc client: ircs://chat.freenode.net/ryzomsupport or via your web browser: #ryzomsupport by typing a nickname and channel #ryzomsupport.
Can I exchange my actions for skill points? Will I run out of skill points?
You buy an action and you keep it. There are enough skill points to buy every skill in the end in fact you will have thousands left over. You cannot mess up.
How should I spend my skill points?
There is no best way to spend them but it is wise to invest in your characteristic upgrades such as constitution, strength, wisdom, etc. This helps your HP, sap, and other stats and your ability to wear certain gear.
Is there a faster way to travel? How can I get to a different continent on the mainland? What is a trek?
On the mainland you can get teleporter pacts. These cost 10,000 dappers and you have to rebuy them as you use them so don't forget! To get to different areas to get these teleports you have to walk (or run) there. Most often a trek is needed. A trek is where a group of people run around atys together with a purpose of getting a new player to the different lands. This is the easiest and least deadly way of getting to new lands.
What's the difference between the Karavan and the Kami? Do I have to pick one or the other?
The only main differences are the teleporter locations and the people in them. Sometimes the teleporters are more strategic with one or the other but most times they are pretty equal. If you are one faction though you cannot use the others' teleport pacts. Of course, you don't have to pick between them you can remain neutral if you like. As a neutral you can use neutral TPs which there is one of in each region except for the prime roots and level 250 zones.
Are there guilds? When should I look for one? How should I choose?
There are plenty guilds in ryzom. All of them are unique in their own way. It is recommended you wait until the mainland to find a guild, and you can wait as long as you like. Find a guild that suits you best. Find some friends and join their guild. Maybe you have an idea what faction or race you want to join, look for one that fits that criteria. You can look through the guild registry and read up a bit.
What is death penalty?
Death penalty is what you receive after you die and respawn. The amount you get is based off of your highest level. Death penalties will stack up if you do not remove it before getting another and can stack up to ten. While you have death penalty you are not able to receive experience points and instead those points will go towards reducing your death penalty. Once the DP is gone you can get experience points again. Your death penalty will go down on its own if left alone, but it is a slow rate unless you buy accelerators for it. These can be found at kami or karavan teleporters (on mainland) and cost dappers.
What are cats? How can I get them?
Cats are a nickname for experience catalyzers. These items double your experience points gained. Cats can only be used by free to play accounts. Paid accounts have permanent catalyzers activated and cannot stack more on. They come from outpost held by guilds(not very common these days), NPC Boss loot, city welcomer missions, and are able to be bought from civilization or faction vendors with faction points (received through PvP or faction runs). To activate cats you right click them in your inventory, and to deactivate them you look in your buff/debuff window and click the catalyzer icon. They will also deactivate on a relog or if you use up that stack.
What type of PvP is there?
A few forms of PvP are present on atys. Outpost battles involve two sides fighting over an Outpost (which creates cats and flowers and outpost mats). These are held at random when a guild declares on another guild. Flagged PvP is when players tag up (click the little green sword in the corner of your stats window) and they make sides and fight. These can be spontaneous or planned ahead. Another form of PvP is just plain out duels where you challenge another person to a duel and fight to the death (can be abandoned and then rez after). There are certain areas that are PvP in the prime roots and the arena in the forest where your guild and teammates are your friends.
