Let me tell you that if Silan had been a Free For All Player Versus Player (which is what I assume FFA PVP stands for) area that I would have been out of Ryzom in aproximately 20 minutes. I agree that making it such would bring in people who want to do PvP, but they would then be disappointed and upset when they went to the mainland and found that it wasn't PvP.
As it is the mission component of Silan is seriously misleading, even though it is necessary to introduce people to the moderately complex mechanics of the game. The game itself is not, in its essence, a PvP game or a mission based game; it is a sandbox with occasional PvP and mission based elements. There are people who enjoy those elements. There are also a lot of people who don't particularly enjoy them or enjoy them only in small amounts or don't care as long as they are not bothered in how they play the game.
I looked over some of the later posts and found them to be more confusing than enlightening. Is the proposal to have two different entry islands? One PvP and one normal Silan? Enchiridion, are you aware of the fact that Silan has no level cap? (Things slow down *a lot* above level 40 or so, but there is no cap.) How would you "force PvP"? If PvP is "forced" somehow, how can it possibly be "enjoyable"? Enjoyment comes from enganging in activities you want to do; "forcing" implies making someone do what they don't want to do.
I can't see this as enhancing the game at all.
