Yeah, I have a pair of 95s that I'm grinding with now. I actually haven't figured out what I want to buy yet with my points, I'm just collecting them for now. =)
Crafted top-quality amps require quantities of Boss mats, excluding the special one-time mats like the Marauder material. Bosses aren't necessarily always around when you need or want them to be, so there is some competition for taking them down, and you may even need to share the mats when you do get one. And there is also the possibility that the boss may not drop what you need, as has happened to me many times, so you're stuck for the next few days waiting for a respawn that someone else may get before you do. Then you need to craft them and suffer the chance of a degrade or even have the chance of a boost.
When you look at the bottom line, I guess they both come out to say "Just keep plugging away at it, and you'll eventually get it", but it seems like a lot more group effort went into the crafted amps compared to the purchased amps which only requires a long tedious grind. But just looking at the numbers and statistics, it probably wouldn't matter as long as the faction point cost was set appropriately.
I guess it just makes me twitch a little to see something as important as amps available from an NPC vendor at a quality that is comparable to player-crafted items, even at a high cost. =)
What about a single-use recipe to craft elemental-effect amps with the 5% racial boost that you can purchase from the faction vendor? I don't think we have support right now for single-use recipes, so that might need to be added. But if that does get implemented, maybe a lot of faction items could be turned into single-use recipes?
You would still have the benefit from doing faction point mission (the 5% racial bonus), but still need the item to be crafted, allowing for degrades and boosts. And if Rubbarn procs, you could even have up to 116 + 5 for racial spells.
Sort of drifting away from the original idea though, I guess.
