When people talk about "liberating" a country, especially one they do not belong to, its connotation is that they really mean conquering it. (Aka "liberating" it from its own government.) "Liberating" someone from a religion usually implies forcible conversion. (In other words, "Convert or die." Or at least, "Your religion's traditional laws and punishments are no longer legal.") I find that quote quite as menacing as Erizon does.
