Report on the Ranger Assembly of Tuesday, 12 December 2017 20:00:00 UTC (7 years ago)
0h - Dua, Thermis 26, 1st AC 2596
[OOC] I have to admit that I wasn't actually present. I logged in, set chatLog, and then had to go run errands. This report is based on the chatLog.[OOC]
The meeting was reasonably well attended with a bit more than 20 homins in attendance.
The first order of business was introduction of new Rangers Aspirant since the last meeting.
The main purpose of the meeting was for Wuaoi to assign new Observers for the Jungle and the Desert because Cliffarson and Kaean had pretty much vanished and Daomei had indicated that she was going to resign. Wuaoi emphasized that Observers are not Ambassadors, but are friendly visitors and do not limit their observing just to the politics of a region, but to other happenings as well.
Karagoz from Spirit of Alervinda and Lemra (whose guild I don't know) volunteered to undertake the Observer position in the Jungle and Wuaoi accepted them.
The situation for the Desert was more complex. There was no immediate volunteer. Eventually Kiwalie put up her hand and volunteered that she would be willing to take the Desert if she found a replacement for the Lakes. Then Saphirola spoke and volunteered to take the position, but she is not a Ranger Aspirant, and Wuaoi said he would accept the offer only if no Ranger Aspirant took it. He thanked her for her offer, however. Before Saphirola spoke, Jyrvie spoke in the dialect of Avendale (but the what she said was not translated into the dialect of Crystabell until after Saphirola spoke). Jyrvie volunteered to take the Lakes position, since she already goes to the assemblies.
That being the case, Wuaoi appointed Jyrvie to be the Observer for the Lakes, and Kiwalie to be Observer for the Desert. Gaperila volunteered to support Kiwalie in the Desert.
Kiwalie then asked if the Fyros have an appointed Ambassador to come to the Ranger meetings. Saphirola said that things have been rather busy in Pyr due to the murder of the Senator. The answer was no, but it might be a good idea since the Research Congress is coming up.
Finally Wuaoi asked if Zorrargh was willing to continue to act as Observer to the Forest. He said yes.
The meeting then was then moved to reports, starting with Zorrargh, who had indicated that he had something to say. What he had to say was a note from Zendae indicating that she would be taking over the job of Ambassador from the Matis to the Rangers. (Nilstilar indicated that was what he had been about to bring up.)
After Wuaoi asked if there were further business, Nilstilar and Kiwalie did a ballet of "after you", "no my friend, you go first," to the amusement of all present. Eventually Kiwalie won and Nilstilar reported on the Royal Botanist's experiment to breed a Psykopla that would absorb Goo in the Void. He also reported on the "True Sap" extremists who had attempted to kill one of the Karan's councilors. Said assassin has been jailed and judged and will be executed soon.
Wuaoi brings up the matter of Goo-contaminated beasts as a cause of concern, and there is some discussion on the matter, with Rangers Aspirant told to keep an eye out.
The Lakes report came from Kiwalie: An account of the capture and trial of one Cybele, a Tryker of the sap who had turned Marauder and committed crimes. She was judged and sentenced to life imprisonment since she is addicted to black sap. Upon appeal, the judge was more lenient and assigned her to work with Jazzy to build up the UDF. Ingfarah heard these judgements as being the equivalent of Trykers enslaving the prisoner. After some discussion, she was convinced that it was not slavery, but community service. Apparently Jazzy is infatuated with Cybele and was the one who got her sentence commuted. There were some comments of "poor Jazzy." Zorrargh pointed out that she was even being paid when her sentence was over.
Kiwalie reported a lost Tryker who only spoke a dialect she did not understand, except for the words Engineer, research and BOOM. She was escorted to Pyr.
Gaperila reported an instance of unusual aggressive kitins in Bounty Beaches. Kipees and Kibans attacking any who got too close in the region of Tupile Trading Post. There was a survivor of the first attack who claimed to have seen a homina stirring them up who was a Marauder. However, said witness gave no name nor race to this homina, and has since disappeared, so all that is, is rumor. Ingfarah promised to investigate, but Gaperila said that a party was formed to kill all of them, and they did not reappear. Wuaoi expressed concern over any strange kitin activity in that area and urged the Rangers Aspirant to keep a sharp eye out and report at once if there was anything strange.
Ingfarah brought up the question of what would be the Ranger's stance on homins helping kitins or even using kitins to attack other homins. Wuaoi felt it was an interesting question, but one that did not need to be discussed in the meeting, since it was running long (almost two hours at that point).
For the report for the Desert, Nilstilar brought up the fact that an academic Congress was being called in Pyr. Wuaoi urges Rangers Aspirant to attend if they can, expecially the Kitinology segment. Kiwalie reported that twelve towers are being planned to protect Thesos, and that she had attended the cremation of Abycus Zekops. Kiwalie says "What protects against the marauders can also protect the homins from the kitins." Zendae (who had shown up after all) noted that homins don't dig tunnels as well as kitins do.
Wuaoi then spoke of the upcoming Ranger Rite, emphasizing that it would be a test not only of physical and magical strength, but of understanding of the Precepts. He also said the start of the Rite will be in the island of Silan, implying that Silan will be opened to travel. ((There was an OOC mention of problems with the Yubo test server. ))
He then closed the meeting, promising that it would not be as long until the next one.
