Regarding usefulness of these mobs:

I heard the Destroyer Gubani in Void gets taken down almost immediately after a server reset, some people choosing it over supernodes; the reason is that its eyes are highly useful in pvp jewels.

Sadly this is my only example, and only hearsay.
