Firstly I like the idea and it makes RP sense although it does touch a certain RP sensitive topic- how marauder players fit in with the marauder bosses.
There are two things that would need to be changed for this to be a workable idea in my mind:
1. To make this happen every other hunt so only 50% of the time. The bosses are currently pve but considering how distorted other areas of pvp are it would be nice to have this as a bit of fun for everyone who wants to try out some pvp. Would be a lot more dynamic and enjoyable that OP battles. Having said that we shouldn't remove the pve side so a 50% split seems fair enough to me.
2. During the pvp npc fights the scale of difficulty of the boss should be lowered (eg. less regen). Having pvp'd already whilst trying to do a npc boss (and vice versa) it is extremely difficult to beat the regen whilst fending off players.
Sadly as bittty pointed out the coding change for this is too much. If the ET could even manage to tweak the old code there is always the chance of bugging out a fun thing in ryzom.
However, there is a possibility we could apply Fishgod's idea to a new line of npc bosses in which this mechanic is introduced. I don't just mean marauder bosses- it would be nice to see a npc boss for each civ which could be killed and fought over.
Would be fun seeing each civ (and maras) try to defend and protect an authority figure against anyone not of that alliance. Would also give a chance of some nation vs nation rp-pvp which rarely ever happens.
