IDEAS FOR RYZOM

Op banners

edit: Also, someone mentioned during Forge chats that Ryzom does not support skinning objects. So basically the server would need to have several flagpoles with all the various guild banners.

That's right, unfortunatelly.
The simplest solution, but alot of useless work, would be to create these objects with their explicit guild logo.

But this is ridiculous in more than just one way:
#1 via the API everyone can catch his logo. Okay at least this step is easy. Also the client don't need to download anything. It's all within their already and just needs to be build, regardless what color, etc. you're using.

#2 It is (by now) not possible to have one object with different textures, so also not with only different logos on them. It is technically not supported and would need to be changed by (any kind of) devs. Propably a lot of deeper work, because Ryzom isn't just "styled" like that.

#3 (simplest one from above) This would mean to create every single object with their guilds logo one by one per hand. Trust me when I'm saying this is a work for more weeks or even months. Also it needs to be reworked after new guilds registering.

#3a This also means you as a player has to update/download these on each time, which could end in trouble for one or others (eg. Mac/Linux users who already have enough problems). And don't forget: Never play on a patch day!

#3b (bit more technical) Every object HAS to have it's own special name to be spawned. So this wouldn't be anymore just "Hey client, go show the flag object to your viewer" but instead "Show the flag of guild xy with this color, that form and blabla, you know what I mean, right?"

#4 What Remigra said could be bit more possible, but I for my own cannot imagine something visuelly good in it and at the end: You can by a coke, glue a peace of paper on it with 'Pepsi' written, but it's still a coke and doesn't look good.
