Agreed: Part of what a sandbox game is about is that (a) we can set our own goals at any time and (b) we have to live with the results. To me that means that there may be things I can never achieve.
So if I want OP mats my char has to kindly ask Virg. And he might deny me any mats because I've denied him something else before - So Irfidel trades with someone else and the two players can still be friends.
Sandbox to me does not mean I can do everything at any time. As a player I can always create a second homin and make him like to fight others. Or I can change Irfidel's character, let his internal volatile state surface once more and finally let him become the mad Zorai he almost became some time ago.
There's always choices. It would become boring if everything is achievable by any means. Enough of ranting into the off topicness...
