hmm there is several ways:
1. Do the Occupations of either florist, cartographer, toolmaker, or water carrier and turn the items into the New horizons guy. He gives dappers and fame and Faction points (used to buy sap crystals, picks, generic mats, cats). And, I think the higher your fame is with the race you turn in items to pays you more dappers, at least you get more faction points with higher racial fame.
2. learn to craft and do craft missions, the intendants in the small cities pay the most. Some of the missions ask for high lvl crafted items, but as you level up, you can make a lot of dappers. I suggest learning shields first, there is good paying shield missions and you can 'overcraft' armor which pays the highest amount of dappers in the game.
3. There is delivery missions too that pay, as well as 'kill this or that' missions.
Get your guild to craft some gear for you, that is what guilds are for. And also, apartments are only 500k in the smaller cities, in the main cities they are 1 million.
