It seems to me that the wearing of a particular piece of armor could be seen one to two ways (at least).
The first is pride of allegiance: "I wear this Kami skirt to show my pride in being a Kami follower."
The second is pride of conquest: "I wear this Kami skirt to show that I can beat up Kami followers." (This might be particularly true in the case of Marauders.)
And a neutral wouldn't care, as long as the piece was useful.
