I partially agree with Virg. We had many OP wars on Arispotle, and yes we were friends too. But i personally don't feel Kami have worked harder or are more organized having seen both sides of the factions now. I was very Kara before merge, and have fought in a couple op wars after merge. I think both sides are the same organizationally from what I have seen, they both seem to do the same things. Both are worried about losing their op!
However, I do feel there is definitely more kami playing now and that is the reason they are stronger. it is sheer numbers. I know of at least two guilds from Arispotle that changed from kara to kami after the merge: Grave of the Fireflies, and Guardians of Shadows (formerly Guardians of Jena). That is a lot of active players right there that swings the balance to kami. There may be other factors too. I'm not saying this is the only thing.
Right after the merge, it seemed the mauraders teamed up with the kara and were a strong potent force and It seemed many wanted to help the kami and went that way. Now it would be nice to see more support the other factions.
Perhaps it was the wrong thing to do to introduce the maurader faction? Now it dilutes the dynamics of a kara/kami conflict.
Neutrals can always be Rangers, so they have an outlet, they do not have to be a kara or a kami follower.
Perhaps to introduce new content to the game is not to introduce more factions.
