The thought that forced pvp for a week will attract more players than it will discourage is questionable at best.
In general i dont think the game as a whole (difficulty, pvp system) and especially at this point of time (server...) is very attractive to a larger pvp population.
What i did see working in games with a similar level of grind and , ehm, "polish", is pvp with a gambling aspect, stakes and/or dropping all items on death.
But it is again very uncertain that we would be able to pull this off (extra, special area where you loose all items, certain lack of items worth gambling for...).
