I've been here about 15 months, so I'm not a complete new person but I'm far from being one of the older players.
I do see the need for a new social channel as well as the Q&A channel. Personally, I dislike idle Uni chat, I find it boring and stupid. But, I do see it as a valid part of the MMO experience and I do think it should be an option for players to engage in. I try to keep an eye on Uni so I can help people with Q&A but once the conversation gets 'stupid' I switch Uni off and pretend it doesn't exist. I doubt my lack of involvement in the Q&A on Uni really means much to people but this thread as already indicated I'm not the only person that does this.
Having two channels means I can just turn off the Social channel while still being present for Q&A. I believe some newer players see the lack of Uni chat as the lack of players because some sort of constant chat is the standard for MMOs. When they don't see it they wonder whats going on.
Just my 2 Dapper worth.
