Why I will never pay to play Ryzom

I think nearly (don't count trolls) every feedback is useful and to be taken serious. But indeed one have to keep in mind that players' tastes and "frustration tolerance" are different.

I don't think that Ryzom is too hard in itself - we all were beginners once and the long-term players were those who started in a time when there were no high-level friends, many game-mechanics still unknown and many helping sites were unavailable. So it's not true that they cannot imagine how hard it is for a newbie - in contrary. The very old players grew up in a time when it was even harder because the overall knowledge and skills of the community were basically inexistent.
Ryzom has become easier in many ways already. Profession products, double xp (paid account), Silan with starter gear (was patched... 2006 i think?), New Horizon teleporters, etc.
Still I consider it as a difficult game, but for not few players it's a challenge and you can be proud after having achieved something. I've seen many games that became easier and easier over the years because players complained. And in the end it didn't lead to more players but to a "fast food" feeling, like mastering the game within a few months and then throwing it away. So personally I appreciate that Ryzom is a bit harder and not everybody's darling.
And i consider death penalty as a very mild form of "punishment". In other games you have to find your tombstone to get your gear back, you lose money or durability of your items and so on.

So while I think the game itself shouldn't become easier, I would love to see a manual that gives some hints - or better help texts. I often help new players around Fairhaven (can't lurk in all regions to help ^^) and I often notice that they have problems because they don't know important things. They are casting with sword and heavy armor (huge penalty on spell costs, range and time!) and wear no jewelery at all! No wonder they don't survive the cloppers. And not because the cloppers are too hard, they are fine for a starter region, but because the players have not enough knowledge about the game. I can't blame them for this. But it would be good if newbies would be somehow informed about the penalties on spells or the theoretical benefits of jewelery somewhere. In a manual, a beginner's guide for example or in good help texts. I love to give these basic infos to players - but often players don't ask in universe or I don't meet them.

So for me Ryzom isn't too hard but new (or shy ;) )players should have better possibilities to inform themselves about game mechanics so they are better prepared for Atys.
