The first of those bugs is not Linux-client specific. However it can be resolved quite easily by the workaround of backing out one map level, then reloading the map for that area. Not as good as a fix, but easy enought to do.
As for the second, have you tried setting the resolution (i.e. screensize) within the game rather than at the login screen? I've never had a problem with it after doing that.
You can also set the screenwidth and screenheight in your client.cfg file using any text editor.
