It does seem to me that when certain conditions are met (right season and spot, etc), some mobs will tend to flock together more than it's usually normal. You have timari breeding grounds between Thesos Falls Tor and Kipucka Plain, arana breeding grounds south of Dyron sometimes, etc. Everywhere, on each continent and region, if under the right conditions.
I certainly remember the overabundance of animals in CoI at times, made painfully visible by the fact that only 3 animals seem to really thrive (mektoub, izam and yubo to a less extent). It's not normal for so many herbivores to flock together without any predators, it harms nature after all; not in Zorai spirit.
Another oddity is the size of some mobs after resets or other events. Caprynis near Pyr are notorious for that, mektoub packers and mounts will sometimes be way taller than a homin, etc. If the Ryzom bible was still something to rely on, I'd say this is happening because of a glitch of the nanocores that formed Atys and probably still run it. :)
