TalkIRC, re post #6, if I understand you correctly, your understanding is wrong *g*
Seriously, the ryzomcore project is kind of independent of the game in that
- the open source community develops ryzom core, and they have their own code repository
- and winchgate continues development on ryzom, and they have their own code repository
But from time to time, Winchgates decides to take a change or new development from ryzomcore into the game. SirCotare implemented the achievement system during GSoC 2012, it went into the ryzomcore open source project, and then Winchgate pulled it into the game ryzom.
Winchgate also pushes back source code they develop in the game to the ryzomcore project. It works both ways. The developers working there must have a deep affection towards Ryzom, because it seems to me they are personally - as human beings - putting more time into the support of both the game here as well as the ryzomcore project than they are being paid for (disclaimer: my personal opinion without knowing any facts).
The open source project ryzomcore is also used by gamedesigners for other games still in development. That's why it's so important for both Winchgate and the ryzomcore project to have separate development activities and only certain controlled handovers.
Note that I am not affiliated with either Winchgate, nor am I active in any way in the ryzomcore project. This is just my personal opinion based on reading some of the developer blogs/news and forum threads here, and on general observations.
The result of all this is that we all should think about where to post ideas. If it is a very general idea like the famous "support for jumping" then this is such a big project that it'll never be undertaken by Winchgate alone (with the current playerbase). But it may very well be interesting to the RyzomCore project and it may be achievable if split into the right smaller sub-projects and gets some additional sponsoring (GSoC, kickstarter, etc)
If the idea involves changing the landscape of Atys, then ryzomcore is the wrong place. This ultimately needs a decision by WinchGate. Good example is the positioning of the digging spots, that created such a fuzz here.
Hope this helps in clarification.
