As Rahael's consultant on this I would like to point out a couple of minor "errors".
The three sublevels for each major level are Follow, Stay, and Assist. They must be trained by having your pet do those things successfully. The rite comes in three parts. Yubo Training, Peacable Training, and Attack Training.
Do Yubo Training Rite:
Level 1: Yubo Follow (select a wild yubo and attempt to get it to follow you using a stanza sort of like a reverse taunt. Feed it and keep it happy or it may wander off)
Level 2: Yubo Stay (Now that it's following, make it stay back to keep it out of the way when you are taking on big bads)
Level 3: Yubo Assist (When you tell it to, the yubo attacks what you are attacking.)
Do Peacable Training Rite:
Level 4: Peacable Follow.
Level 5: Peacable Sit
Level 6: Peacable Assist
Do Attack Training Rite:
Level 7: Attack Follow (like the others, but you have to stay alive while trying to tame it. :) )
Level 8: Attack Sit
Level 9: Attack Assist
I do think that if you lose your Yubo or higher pet you simply have to train a new one, not necessarily repeat the rite.
We thought of having the tamed beasts gradually grow to a level no higher than 50 below your maximum level. This would imply that the maximum level of any tame beast is 200 and that beasts higher than level 200 cannot be tamed. (Obviously Aen and Dante and little Pei have figured out how to bypass this, but they are Marauder NPC's.)
We selected the beasts based on racial characteristics and the use of certain animals by NPC's and the like. For instance, the Fyros got the Varinx because Aen has them. Tryker the Torbak because Dante uses them. Tryker got the Igara because the Tryker are the Children of the Wind.
Debate over particular beast assignments (with reasoning) would be appropriate. Note that we deliberately fixed Race (not civilization adheranc) and "tameable beasts". This means that Racial choice will actually mean something.
The main point was to keep to the theme that is pervasive in Ryzom: Nothing worth doing is easy. Nothing, ever, results in a homin becoming "uber." Also, I kept in mind the Remickla Doctrine.
