As Bitty remarked, the kitin threat was recently used.
What I'd like to see is some seemingly innocuous fact-of-life developing in a subplot. Maybe have a massive carnivore attack on Cities of Intuition, currently the herds of mektoub and the flocks of izam are living almost unthreatened. Atys is a balanced ecosystem, and with such an abundance of resources surely some ragus and torbak would be interested?
Slowly there would come some bosses too, and after a while running unafraid in the cities to get some tasty homin flesh. If the guards are not fast or strong enough, homins would need to unite in order to push back the threat from their doorstep. All culminating with a massive attack led by Fylish itself, KoD is not so far from Zora after all.
edit: Having a Kitin war would have repercussions in the future too. Last time someone attacked them, they retaliated with incredible force. I wouldn't think us uniting to push them out of our lands should/could/would remain without consequence for long.
