There was a previous thread in support that addressed this problem. In fact I was updating Ryzom on my Lenovo ThinkPad and ran into the very same thing. I even went to the ThinkPad/AMD site and updated all my system and drivers.
Go to http://goo.gl/7K9cY which links to the Microsoft DirectX page. It talks about DirectX 9, but even though you have DirectX 11 just download the big old file with the Download button, then execute it. It will think for a while and copy a few files.
Reboot the computer and relaunch. It should work.

Edit: Amazingly enough I had no problems on my desktop PC, but I suspect that is because NVIDIA includes DirectX updates in its driver downloads.
