Taken from an email to my son, extolling the virtues of Ryzom over 'that other game' ....
I found me a bunch of birds yesterday - "Fledgling" and "Newborn". "Pfffft, how bad could it be?" I think to myself. Waaaall .... I get over next to one, hit him with a ranged cold spell (resisted) he flies over I hit him with my acid spell (interrupted) then one of his buddies comes over as he's hitting me for 40+ pts a pop while I stand there with a stupid look on my face (like he needs help right?) So I haul out my weapon *Poof!* it's gone in a silver glow around me - "WTF??.....Oh ****" ...I awkwardly swing a fist, which he promptly laughs off and pecks another 40pts out of my ***. *I look around quick to see if anyone saw that* Then his OTHER buddy comes over as I'm clumsily equipping my sword again! "**** Me!" Now I'm losing around 120 pts every couple seconds! So I quick heal myself 200 Pts, haul back on my sword *Poof!* gone again!! "**** **** **** **** ****!!!!!" Trying to re-equip, heal is out for 2 mins ... birds are going ape-**** .... yet ANOTHER ****ing bird comes in?!?!! I get 1 good swing in ... and die. "Um ... this is the newb area...yes?"
Good times. They paid for it tho, eventually... I got quite a few crafting levels from stuffing, shafts, and leather :p
Other games - they give you a cookie whether you succeed or not, in fact you don't even have to participate. Ryzom takes your cookie, eats it in front of you, and slaps you 2 or 3 times for bringing a cookie in the first place.
