Never having been in the situation myself so far I could think of a reason:
Diggers could compare popping your nodes right next to them to mob stealing. _Especially_ if you were previously unaware of a good digging location.
I'd accept it if you just pop a node to see what's there. But if you're actually starting to dig, it feels very much like killing my bandits. And we had a big discussion about that already.
On top of that, you never know who's the new homin. Is she a good digger or a bad one? My concern would be that if it's just a passersby wanting a quick pop, dig and dash, then maybe next time I look I'm dead from some green cloud nearby.
And finally, non pvp players could be especially anxious about it, because they may not want to being pulled into a conflict. (Not talking about digging in the PVP zones where we also already had a discussion about behaviour) Then again, role players might like a good diplomatic conflict - or not.
So even if diggers are not responding to some questions. At least wait until someone has finished to dig the currently popped nodes: While I'm digging I'm essentially unable to talk (as demo'ed yesterday during the quiz) and I'm definitely unable to do my usual fun interactions of waving or bowing - can't target something else than the node.
Just some thoughts...
